High-voltageispresentduringthistest. Cautionshould
beexercisedduringthistestsincehigh voltagetestingis
potentially hazardous.
Beforedoinganyworkonthecontactor,thecontrollerisolat-
ingswitchmustbeintheopenpositionandlockedout.If
anycontrolpowerisusedfromaseparatesource,itshould
alsobeisolated.Itisalsosuggestedthata“HotStick”be
used to ensure equipment is voltage free.
1. econtactormaybetestedwhileitisinthepowercell.elineconnec-
tion of the contactor must be disconnected and the ground lead from the
Hi-pottestermustbeconnectedtotheloadsideofthecontactor.
2. Withthecontactorintheopenposition,connectthetestleadstothe
contactorpowerterminalsasshowninFigure2.2.Itisrecommendedthat
anAChi-pottesterbeused.Apply16kVfor60secondsandmonitorthe
leakagecurrent.Itshouldnotexceed5mA.
3. Ifnobreakdownoccurs,thebottleisinanacceptablecondition.Ifabreak-
downoccurs,thebottleshouldbereplaced.
Note: RockwellAutomationrecommendsthat,ifthecontactorhasbeenin
service,allthree(3)bottlesbereplacedatthesametime.
4. AertheHIGHPOTENTIALVOLTAGEisremovedfromthebottles,
themetalendcapsofthebottlesshouldbedischargedwithagroundingrod
to remove any residual electrical charge.
