R/C Servo Basics
WhendealingwithaRemotelyControlled(“R/C”)servo,itisimportanttoknowthefollowing
terminology:

● Gears(whichreducethemotor’sspeedandincreasethetorque)
● Spline(connectionfromthelastinternalgear;fitsintotheservohorntomakeitrotate)
● Horn(theplasticormetalpartwhichcanbeusedtoconnectotheritems)
● Potentiometer(anabsoluteangelsensorusedtoprovidetheservo’sposition)

● 3pincableandconnector(0.1”standardspaced)

FormostRCservos,a500uslongpulse(0.5ms)at5Vwouldrotatetheservohornto90
degrees;a2500us(2.5ms)long5Vpulsewouldrotatethehornto+90degrees;thereforea
1500uspulsecorrespondsto0degrees(centered).Thispulseneedstoberepeatedevery
~20ms.
