ROBERTS 1800 VINYL
SHEETGOODS EMBOSSING
LEVELLER is a low VOC,
environmentally friendly,
specially formulated, unique,
one-part, ready-to-use product
designed to fill and level the
embossed surface of existing
resilient flooring prior to the
installation of new floor
covering. 1800 permits the
application of new adhesive
and consequently, new floorcovering with the existing
vinyl flooring in place. This product is non-flammable,
non-toxic and solvent-free.
Conditions and Limitations:
1. Temperature: Adhesive and floor must be at least
65o F (18.3oC), or higher if the floorcovering
manufacturer recommends.
2. Condition of floor: Existing resilient floors must be
completely and securely bonded to an approved
subfloor and should be free of all foreign matter
including adhesives, paint, wax or other coatings
and finishes. Strip all old floor finishes and ensure
the substrate is completely dry prior to applying
the leveler.
3. This product, as well as the surface of resilient
floorings, is very non-porous and as a result, the
open time of traditional "wet-set" floorcovering
adhesives will be significantly retarded. The use of
pressure-sensitive, high-tack adhesives will be
more suitable when choosing an adhesive for the
new floorcovering.
Uses:
Use 1800 to infuse or fill the embossing in existing
resilient floors, thereby eliminating the need for
sanding or removing existing sheet vinyl flooring,
vinyl backing, lining-felt or resilient tile, and
eliminating the potential risk of exposure to asbestos.
1800
Environmentally friendly • Anti-microbial • One part system • Residential/Commercial Use • Solvent Free
Preparation and Application:
1. Apply 1800 to the substrate and fill in the embossed
areas on the existing floor while simultaneously
removing most of the excess from the unembossed
areas using a smooth- edged, or finishing-blade
trowel. Employ the same troweling action used
when applying traditional floorcovering adhesives.
Trowel at a 45∞ angle to the embossing lines where
practical.
2. Allow the leveller up to 1-1/2 to 2 hours to dry
completely before installing new flooring material.
Any residual tack is negligible.
3. Once the leveler is completely dry, trowel ridges or
any unevenness in the leveller can be removed by
using the front edge of a smooth edge-finishing
trowel or by scraping with a wallpaper scraper. The
substrate is now ready for the new floorcovering
material.
Ventilation:
To enhance curing of leveler, implement effective
ventilation by opening windows and doors for an
adequate supply of fresh air. Also, consider using
window fans and/or air movers to bring fresh air in
and to exhaust emissions to the outdoors.
Clean Up:
Wet adhesive can be cleaned from tools with a water-
dampened rag. For dried adhesive use Roberts 1901
Solvent sparingly with a clean white cotton cloth. Do
not pour 1901 Solvent directly onto flooring.
Coverage:
Coverage is approximately 17 sq. yds. / litre or
65 sq.yds / US gallon or 16 sq. yds. / US Quart.
Coverage will vary according to the degree of
texture or embossing in the resilient floor surface
being filled.
