2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Duo-Power 8S EQ is an elegant computer-based charge / discharge station suitable
for all current types of rechargeable battery, and includes battery management and an
integral equalizer for eight-cell Lithium-Ion (LiIon), Lithium-Polymer (LiPo) and Lithium-
Ferrum (LiFe) batteries. The maximum charge current is 6.5 A, and the charger can be
operated either from a 12 Volt car battery or the mains supply using the integral switch-
mode PSU.
The Duo-Power 8S EQ can be used to charge and discharge NC / NiMH batteries con-
sisting of 1 to 24 cells. With these cells the Delta Peak method is used to terminate the
charge process when the battery is fully charged. Lithium and Lead-acid batteries are
charged using the CC - CV method.
One of the most important features of the Duo-Power 8S EQ is the pio-
neering Battery Identification System (BID). A vast array of different battery
types is now available to the modeller, and the range is constantly expand-
ing; the problem is that each battery type requires its “own” charge
process. It can happen so quickly: you switch the system on with the wrong
settings - and in a moment your valuable battery is damaged.
The revolutionary BID system from robbe now offers an ingen-
ious solution to this problem. Each battery is assigned a small,
lightweight BID chip / key which stores all the relevant data
required for charging and discharging that pack perfectly.
When the battery is to be charged or discharged, the BID chip
attached to the battery is simply connected to the Duo-Power
8S EQ, and the BID system transfers the required parameters
to the charger.
All you need to do then is press the ‘MODE’ button,
and the charge or discharge process begins. The
elimination of that tiresome searching through menus
for the set-up parameters, maximum protection from
mishandling, and storing of the relevant battery data
in the BID chip / key - those are the unique advan-
tages of the BID system. Since the essential informa-
tion is stored in the BID chip / key, all the data
required for safe, optimum charging and discharging
is always “on board” the battery, and can be displayed on the charger’s screen at any
time This means that you can obtain an up-to-date picture of the battery’s condition with-
out the need for PC software or computer technology.
