12) Secure Low Level Access to the Array
ManagementoftheXirrusArrayisdoneviatheWebManagementInterface(WMI)or
CommandLineInterface(CLI).TheArrayalsohasalowerlevelinterface:XBL(XirrusBoot
Loader),whichallowsaccesstomoreprimitivecommands.Youwon’tnormallyuseXBLunless
instructedtodosobyXirrusCustomerSupport.Forpropersecurity,yo
ushouldreplacethe
defaultXBLloginusernameandpasswordwithyourown,asinstructedbelow.XBLhasitsown
usernameandpassword,separatefromtheArr ayOSAdminUserandPassword(usedfor
loggingintotheWMIandCLI).
XirrusalsoprovidestheXirconutilityforconnectingtoArraysthatarenotreachableviathe
normalaccessmet
hods(suchasSecureShell(SSH)orWMI)andthatdonothaveaphysical
consoleport(XR‐1000),orwhoseconsoleportisnotaccessible.XircondiscoversArraysonyour
networksubnetandcanthenestablishanencryptedconsoles
essiontotheArrayviathe
networkeveniftheArrayIPconfigurationisincorrect.XirconallowsyoutomanagetheArray
usingCLI,justasyouwouldifconnectedtotheconsoleport.Xirconalsohasanoptionfor
easilyaccessingXBL.
XirconaccesstotheArraymaybecontrolled.SinceXR‐1000Arraymodelsdonotha
vea
consoleport,thesemodelshaveXirconaccesstobothXBLandCLIenabledbydefault.For
Arraysthatdonothaveaconsoleport,toavoidpotentiallybeinglockedoutoftheArray,
XirconshouldalwaysbeenabledattheXBLlevelatleast.
IfyoudisableXirconac
cesstobothXBLandCLIonXR‐1000models,youmustensure
thatyoudonotlosetrackoftheusernameandpasswordtologintoCLI/WMI!Inthis
situation,thereisnowaytorecoverfromalostpassword,otherthanre
turningthe
ArraytoXirrus.IfyouhaveXirconaccesstoXBLenabled,youcanresetthepassword,
butthisrecoverywillrequiresettingtheunittofactorydefaultswithlossofall
configurationdata.
UsethefollowingstepstoreplacethedefaultXBLusernameandpassword.ThesestepsuseCLI
commands.
