OPERATING CONTROLS (continued)
At the end of a battery's service life, the pack
loses its ability to hold a charge, and will not
operate the radio for long. Try charging the
pack continuously for 24 hours. If the battery
still fails, replace it.
CAUTION: Use only RITRON-supplied
chargers! Other chargers might cause
fire, explosion, or other damage to the
radio.
BATTERY PACK
CONNECTOR
The battery pack (RITRON Model BP-
5NM) plugs into the three-pin polarized
connector on the JOBCOM VOX PC board.
AUDIO JACK
The JOBCOM VOX audio jack may be used
for a plug-in headset
OR an optional remote
speaker/microphone.
IMPORTANT: Before using a headset or
remote speaker/ microphone, read the
audio accessory jumper section
below.
HEADSET - Inserting a headset plug into the
audio jack disconnects the internal speaker/
microphone. Be sure the squelch control knob
is set to eliminate noise (as explained in
squelch control), and that no one is
transmitting on your channel. Place the
headset control switch in either the TALK
LOUD or TALK NORM position, and speak into
the boom microphone of the headset. Your
JOBCOM VOX then transmits automatically.
NOTE: THE VOX CIRCUITRY WILL NOT
ACTIVATE THE TRANSMITTER IF:
1) the handheld is receiving a signal on
your channel, or
2) the squelch control is NOT rotated far
enough counterclockwise to eliminate
noise, or
3) the headset is unplugged.

SQUELCH CONTROL
The squelch control knob can be adjusted to
eliminate NOISE when there is NO incoming
signal. Rotate the squelch control knob
clockwise until you hear noise, then set squelch
by rotating the knob counterclockwise until
noise disappears.
Optional privacy module - If your JOBCOM
portable is equipped with an optional Quiet-Call
or Paging Quiet-Call module, activate the
privacy feature by rotating the radio's squelch
control knob counterclockwise until the switch
clicks. To turn OFF "privacy" operation, rotate
the squelch control clockwise out of the click
position.
For an explanation of Quiet-Call, see the
PRIVACY MODULE SECTION, page 6.
CHARGER JACK
When the battery needs charging, switch OFF
the radio. Insert the charger cord plug into the
jack labeled CHG at the top of the radio. Then
plug the charger cube into a 110 VAC outlet.
The green LED on the cube lights to indicate
that the battery pack is charging, and should
go OFF only when the charger is unplugged.
The battery should charge completely in about
eight hours.
Typical service life of a battery pack is one year.
To ensure maximum battery service life, follow
these guidelines:
DO NOT discharge a battery that is
already "run down." If the battery cannot
power your radio, recharge it.
DO NOT overcharge a battery. The
battery should not be charged for more
than 24 hours at a time.
CHARGE THE BATTERY FOR 16
HOURS before storing it. Thereafter,
charge the battery for 16 hours once
every 30 days.
