These bits set the initial modem type for 9.6 and
7.2 kbps, if the initial modem rate is set at these
speeds.

 These bits set the initial starting
modem rate for reception.
 Use a lower setting if high speeds
pose problems during reception.
 If a modem rate 14.4 kbps or slower is
selected, V.8 protocol should be
disabled manually.
