The op erat ing progr ams and f onts for the p rint er are s tored in Flas h memory on the M ain P CB . When progr am up dates
and/or new fea tures ar e added, they can be downloaded to the p rinter a s f ollows:
1. Identify the new ver sion f or your model of print er f rom the Dat amax W eb site at www.datamaxcorp.com
and download
it onto your compu ter’ s hard drive or a flopp y disk.
2. Ens ure that the printer is c onnected to the hos t, (via par allel port only) and t hat the p ower is ‘ On.’ Using the DOS c opy
c omman d e nter:
copy filename.dlf lpt1/b
(non-display pri nt er fir mware is .dlf extension)
copy filename.zs lpt1/b
(display printer firmware is .zs extension)
 Note: Ot her progr ams (e.g., hyper-termi nal and certain Windows
®
Driver programs) may also be used to download thi s fi le.
3. The
READY
light will fl ash during the download.
4. Following a successful download, the
STOP
Light will illu minate t hen the p rinter will p erf orm a ‘ cold reset .’ The
previous printer set up will not b e af f ected unless substantial firmwa re data struc ture cha nges have occu rr ed. Print a
Datab ase Conf igura tion Label to veri f y your new firmware version.
 Following an unsuccessful dow nl oad, the
ERROR
Light will illu mina te then the printer will p erf orm a ‘ warm
res et’ ( both the
READY
and
STOP
light s will b e on during power -u p initialization) . T he original firmwa re will
remain operational. I f the p rint er f ails to reset , toggle the power ‘ O ff’ and ‘On.’
Try r e- sending t he file t o the p rinter. If the failure continues , check t he following pos si b l e caus es:
• An invalid or corr upted file is being downloaded - E nsure the file b eing downloaded is c orr ect and a pplic able
for your printer model.
• Possi ble communicati ons error - Chec k the cable c onnection between the hos t and print er and ensu re that a
quality, shielded ca ble is used.
• Poss i b le Flash memory problem - Call for service.
