In addition to the Sensor Type selection , Media Sensor calibr ation ensures that each label is detected correctly and r eliably. Perform
calibration when the ‘Uncalibrated’ message is displayed. Thr ee different methods are available to calibrate the prin ter: Quick,
Stan da rd, and Advanced En try.
5.4.1 Quick Calibration
W hen ‘Uncalibrated’ is displayed, follow the Media Sensor Calibration procedure in Section 5.4.2.
At the factor y, th e printer is calibrated to sense a wide ran ge of media types. Quick Media Calibration fine-tunes the media sensor
for your gap, notch or reflective media application. Note that th is is not required if you are using con tin uous media. Perform this
calibration during initial set-up or after changin g your media type. To calibrate:
En sure that media is loaded (see Section 3.2), that th e Media Sensor is adjusted (see Section 3.3), and that th e printer is idle.
Press and hold the
Key. Th e printer will begin advancing media; allow at least on e label gap (or mar k) to advance under
the sensor before releasing th e button.
Upon successful completion, th e ‘Calibration Completed’ message will flash; the printer will feed to the next label TOF and ‘Ready’
will be displayed. (A ‘Warn in g Low Backing’ message may appear if using notch ed media or media on a tran sparent liner; however,
the calibration was successful).
Note: Media containing large gaps may require a change in t he ‘Paper Out Distance’ setting; see Section 5.1. 2.
Calibratio n Hints :
In certain cases, the printer may have trouble differentiating between the label and liner. If the printer stops feeding in the
middle of a la b el or if ‘Cannot Ca libra te’ is displayed, try calibra ting over a longer distance:
• Press and hold the
Key to allow two or more gaps ( or marks ) to advanc e u nder the sensor.
If this method fails, see S tanda rd C alibra ti on ( Section 5.4.2) .
