3.1.2 Interface Connection
The p rint er c an be connected to t he host via a USB, seria l or p ar allel cable. The Printer will automa tic ally connect to the
first port (US B , serial or parallel) that tr ansmit s valid dat a. Af ter this c onnection has been made, the p rinter’s power must
be cycled ‘Off’ a nd ‘On’ to change t he inter face connection.
USB Connection:
The USB Interface is suppor ted in Windows
®
95 and greater.

Parallel Co nnectio n:
The parallel interface requires a Centronics
®
IEEE 1284 cable
with a 36 pin male connector. Bi-dir ectional mode is IEEE 1284
Compliant, using forward and reverse channel communications.
In this mode, data can be sent to the host pr ovided it is also IEEE
1284 Compliant and has supporting software. Default is uni-
directional, for printers with f ront display, see Chapter 5.
Serial Connection:
The serial interface supports RS-232C
commu nic ati ons via a D B - 9 c onnector . The
following list of serial port set tings is menu-
selectable and must ma tc h the hos t computer’ s serial
port set ti ngs; see Chapter 4, for non-disp lay print ers
or Chapter 5 f or disp lay print ers.
Baud Rate (Default 9600 bps)
Word Len gth (Default 8 bits)
In a ddition to the port settings, the serial interface
cabl e wiring must have specif ic c onnections ( pin-
outs) for proper da ta exc hange bet ween the hos t a nd
print er. The diff erent s eria l c able p in-outs and par t
numb ers ar e in the following table ( c ontact your
reseller for ordering information).
