Window Treatments by Ricardo Trading LLC
Plan to allow 4” to 5” inches top of window sill for mounting rod and hardware. Valance (A) should also
be at least 4” wider than drapery panels as shown in Style (1) . Valance (A) and Swag Pair (C) width,
should be hung about 2” - 4” outside window frame as shown in Style (2) and (3). Tier Pair (B) width
measures frame to frame as shown in style (2) and (3)
(A) Valance - (Style 1) As a rule of thumb, a straight valance has a drop measuring 1/6 the curtain drop.
Match a 12-inch valance drop with up to a 72-inch curtain drop; a 15-inch valance with a 72- to 90-inch
curtain drop; and an 18-inch valance with a 90-inch and longer curtain drop. (B) Tiers - Tier curtains,
which are shorter and generally don't cover an entire window, are usually either 24, 30, and 36 inches
long. Curtains are measured from the top of the rod pocket to the end, not tip to tip. Tiers should sit
just above the window sill as shown in style (2) and (3). (C) Swags - Generally don’t cover an entire
widow, much like valance (style 2), and comes in standard sizes. Swags, like tiers can be alone on
window or placed above tiers as shown in style (3).
Fullness is subjective, so here is a guide, use approximately 2 times your window width in fabric.
For thinner fabrics use more fullness as much 3 1/2 times your window width, for thicker fabrics use
less fullness. If you want to see more pattern use less fullness, if you want more fold use more for fullness.
Install curtain rod (sold separately). We recommend curtain rod to be thin enough to slide
though curtain opening and if gromment style to match rod finish. Remove Ricardo panel
from package. Use iron on low heat or steamer to remove wrinkles prior to hanging curtain panels.
