CTA Adaptor Wiring
WARNING: A separate branch circuit with copper conductors, overcurrent protective device and
suitable disconnecting means must be provided by a qualified electrician.
All wiring must conform to local codes or latest
edition of National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70.
1. Use an appropriately sized wire nut to connect the
RED wire of the CTA Adaptor and Water Heater.
2. Use an appropriately sized wire nut to connect
BLACK wire of the CTA Adaptor and of the Water
Heater.
3. Use the GREEN ground screw that is attached to
the junction box cover to connect the Green wire of
the CTA Adaptor.
4. The water heater is completely wired to the
junction box inside the top pan of the water heater.
*NOTE: A CTA2045 compliant Module can be
connected to the water heater’s CTA Adaptor.
Follow the instructions from the CTA2045 Module
supplier.
NOTICE: When used in demand response
applications a thermostatic mixing valve
conforming to ASSE 1017 shall be installed on the
hot water supply line following all manufacturer
installation instructions.
CTA Module Communication with the Water Heater
1. To ENABLE communication of the CTA module with
the water heater, press the LEFT arrow for 7 seconds.
After which time, the control will then generate an
audible ASCENDING tone.
2. To DISABLE communication of the CTA module with
the water heater, press the LEFT arrow for 7 seconds.
After which time, the control will then generate an
audible DESCENDING tone.
CAUTION: Should a CTA module be connected
after initial water heater installation, ensure
POWER to the water heater is turned OFF prior
to installation.

NOTE: Should this heater not be involved in a Demand Response Program, these connections may still be
made without affecting the functionality or performance of the water heater.
