INTRODUCTION The REVEL® PERFORMA™ C50 center-channel loudspeaker draws upon the same research, resources, and unique perspective made famous by Revel’s ULTIMA™ Series, resulting in standardsetting low coloration and freedom from distortion over an extraordinarily wide dynamic range. The REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeaker provides this exceptional performance in a wide range of applications (through the use of placement compensation circuits) and uniformly throughout a wide listening area.
DESCRIPTION The REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeaker uses two 6.5-inch (165 mm) ceramic-composite woofers, a 4-inch (102 mm) ceramic-composite midrange, and a 1-inch (25 mm) aluminum-dome tweeter. • Ceramic-composite cones feature an optimum combination of stiffness and low mass for low coloration and distortion, and fully-pistonic operation throughout their entire operating range. • Specially-shaped, synthetic and natural butyl-rubber composite surround contributes to low coloration and distortion. • Die-cast basket to eliminate coloration from resonances. TWEETER The 1-inch (25 mm) tweeter features: • An aluminum-alloy dome for fully-pistonic operation.
UNPACKING To avoid injury, please use care during unpacking. Always stand as straight as possible and use your leg muscles to lift the REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeaker. Do not lift it while bending from the waist. WARNING To unpack the REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeaker, perform the following steps: 1. Place the REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeaker onto its side. 2. Open the bottom flaps. Stand the carton in the up position. 3.
After unpacking the unit, carefully inspect it for possible damage due to shipping. If you discover any damage, immediately contact your Revel dealer for further assistance. When moving a REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeaker (e.g., when experimenting with placement), avoid touching the transducers. Keep all packing materials for future shipping. In the unlikely event a product will need repair, Revel will only accept a unit in its original shipping carton.
INSTALLING STANDS (OPTIONAL) 1. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the Revel Performa C50 loudspeaker feet and screws (for later attachment to the stand base). Locate the spike foot kit (containing the spikes, lock nuts, covers, screws, and a wrench) in the loudspeaker’s left pad and flat foot in the right pad. Set all parts aside. 2. Start the stand assembly by fastening three upright bars to the bottom ‘T’ base with three enclosed 1⁄4 -20 x 1" flat head screws.
4. Place the stand (as shown below) and install the feet onto the bottom of the ‘T’ base. Thread spikes about halfway into each foot and use the wrench to tighten each one with a locking nut, as shown in Figure 6. Figure 6. Installing feet and spikes. Foot Lock Nut NOTE: Install the supplied flat foot (see Figure 3 on page 6) on the rear (center) position of the ‘T’ base. Spike 7⁄ 8" max. (3) Covers (optional) round end Cover (optional) HARD FLOORS (3) Nuts (6) Screws Foot Lock Nut 1 1⁄ 8" max.
INSTALLING SPIKES If desired, you can add spikes to the REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeaker as follows: 1. Remove the spike feet, lock nuts, and wrench from the plastic bag. 2. Lay the REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeaker on its top on a carpeted area or soft towel. Use caution to avoid touching the transducers and grille. Remove the black screws that serve as glides on the three feet and store them for future use. Start a set of spikes, as shown in Figure 8.
RELOCATING THE CENTER FOOT As shipped, the REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeaker is preset for placement on top of a large-screen television set or deep bookshelf. If your television set or bookshelf is shallower, you’ll need to remove the (rear) center L-foot and install the supplied flat foot in one of two positions for a narrower footprint as follows: 1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws from the (rear) center L-foot. Save the L-foot with the the packing materials. 2.
PLACEMENT Sound quality is heavily dependent on the accuracy of all your loudspeakers, their placement in the listening room, and the acoustics of the room itself. Since the REVEL PERFORMA C50 center-channel loudspeaker is extremely accurate, experiment with the following loudspeaker systems and placements (Figures 10 through 12) to enhance performance.

CONNECTIONS For best results, please read the following points before connecting the REVEL PERFORMA C50 loudspeakers: • Use high-quality speaker cable with a maximum total loop resistance (for each wire run) of 0.07 ohms or less. Use the chart in Figure 13 below to determine the maximum wire gauge. A high loop resistance will result in mis-termination of the filter networks, and serious degradation of sound quality. Use high-quality connectors on the loudspeaker cables.

SYSTEM OPTIMIZATION (Continued) 2. The REVEL PERFORMA C50 center-channel loudspeaker must be used with an 80 Hz crossover as follows: • If your system includes a multi-channel controller, set the center channel to use an 80 Hz crossover. Some controllers or receivers refer to this setting as a “small” center channel. • Use an 80 Hz crossover even if your system does not include a subwoofer.
may achieve a better timbre match with the left and right (front) loudspeakers than your original setting (as performed in step 2 on the previous page). Experimentation is the best way to determine the optimum setting. NOTE: Rotating the PLACEMENT COMPENSATION control to the right increases low-frequency output (see Figure 15 on page 15). 6. You may also wish to further adjust the tweeter’s HIGH FREQUENCY LEVEL control (see Figure 15 on page 15) to achieve the most natural sound in your room.
OBTAINING SERVICE We take great pride in our dealers. Experience, dedication, and integrity make these professionals ideally suited to assist with our customers’ service needs. If your Revel component requires service, please contact your dealer. Your dealer will then decide whether the problem can be remedied locally, whether to contact Madrigal for further service information or parts, or to obtain a Return Authorization.
SPECIFICATIONS Revel utilizes proprietary measurement methods in the design and specification of our loudspeakers. Our research has developed a series of tests that represent a great leap forward in making measurements that dramatically contribute to our goal of accurately reproducing music or film. Sensitivity: 90 dB SPL, with 2.83 Vrms @ 1 m (4 pi anechoic) Sensitivity provides an indication of how much amplifier power is required for the loudspeaker to play at satisfactory volume levels.
SPECIFICATIONS (Continued) Frequency Responses: (Continued) Listening Window Response; ±1.0 dB from 70 Hz to 18 kHz This improved “on-axis” measurement reduces the visual confusion of inaudible local interference, yet still retains full accuracy without using “spectral smoothing” which results in significant data loss.
