Chapter 6 USING THE RS232-RS422 PROTOCOL CONVERTER
6.1 RC1KADP RS232 to RS422 Protocol Converter
The serial port on RC1000A and RC2000 antenna controllers uses RS422 signal levels. This allows the
antenna controllers to be connected in a daisy chain fashion (i.e. a single PC equipped with a single
RS422 output port can communicate with many antenna controllers). The Standard OMNI830BR satellite
receiver can also accept commands via an RS422 serial port. It is possible for the OMNI830BR to be
connected to an RS422 network which also includes RC1000 and RC2000 antenna controllers.
The following interconnect diagram shows the connections between a PC, the RC1KADP, the RC2000 (or
RC1000) antenna controller, and the Standard Satellite receiver.

** If the RS422 cable is shielded, the shield should be connected to the SHLD terminal of connector J2 of
the RC1KADP.
*** For the OMNI830BR to communicate via the RS422 port, RS422 mode must be set via an internal
jumper and the TTL mode must be set to OFF via the front panel.
6.2 RC1KADP Checkout Procedure
To verify the operation of the RC1KADP and PC serial port, a loopback test can be performed. To
configure the RC1KADP for the loopback test, on connector J2 of the RC1KADP, connect RXD to TXD
and /RXD to /TXD. During a loopback text, any character transmitted by the PC is received by the PC.
Use the RC2K_.EXE program found on the diskette included with each antenna controller to send
characters out of the serial port. The RC2K_.EXE program is documented in the README file found on
the diskette.
