You will find detailed connection options not found on the Quick Setup Guide. If you have not already, take a look at the Quick Setup Guide before reading this chapter. You may not need to use all the cables provided with ReplayTV.

IR blaster cable (included) lets ReplayTV change the channels on your cable box or satellite receiver if it does not support the serial cable. The IR blaster emitters need to be affixed directly over the IR detector on your satellite receiver or cable box. See “Connecting the IR Blaster” on page 10.

The signal(s) connect directly to the ReplayTV inputs. The outputs from ReplayTV connect to a television, monitor, or A/V receiver. You can also connect a VCR to ReplayTV and save shows you have recorded to videotape. See “Saving Recordings to Videotape” on page 46 for more information.

Deleting recordings from the Replay Guide will preserve hard drive space. • Connect an A/V cable from the OUTPUT jacks on ReplayTV to the AUDIO/VIDEO IN jacks on your VCR, matching like colors. • Set the VCR to its A/V input instead of channel 3 or 4 to record shows from ReplayTV if you use A/V cables.

It may be shown there. 2 Look for an area of dark, nearly opaque plastic on the front of the unit. If you find this area, look closely into it. You may be able to see the infrared detector behind it.

The router will allow you to share your cable modem without needing additional IP addresses from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If your ISP requires that you log on or use special software on your PC in order to access the Internet, you will need a router. Consult your ISP for requirements. Refer to the following connection examples for details.

Before setting up ReplayTV, you should verify with your ISP that a device like ReplayTV is supported. You may need to specify the IP address on ReplayTV. See “Entering Networking Information Manually on ReplayTV” on page 16 for more information.

Copying pictures from a PC to ReplayTV Plug your PC and ReplayTV into your hub/switch. Manually enter the network settings for the network card in your PC.

It does not matter if there is a hub between ReplayTV and the router. • If ReplayTV is connected to a cable modem or DSL modem, then the network information you need is provided by your ISP.

ReplayTV will continue to record even if you delay the broadcast by using the pause, rewind, or Instant Replay features. Recording only stops when you change channels and begin watching a different show. The temporary space is then cleared and ReplayTV starts recording again.

Shows will be deleted when space is needed for new recordings. This allows you to decide whether to watch the show now or to preserve it by choosing “Keep until I delete” on the show’s menu. As long as there is more than four hours remaining (at the default recording quality), you will never see any of your shows at risk.

ReplayTV5.5 UG.book Page 54 Friday, August 1, 2003 10:58 AM When I try to change channels, I see a blue screen that states “No video signal,” and the channel does not change. • Confirm that you subscribe to the channel. • Verify that the A/V connections from your cable box/satellite receiver to ReplayTV are correct. • Verify that the correct inputs to ReplayTV are selected in Setup. Verify that only one input is configured for each satellite receiver or cable box connected to ReplayTV.
• Press and hold the POWER button on the front of ReplayTV for 10 seconds, then release. ReplayTV will restart in a few moments. • Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet for 15 seconds then plug it back in. ReplayTV will restart and power on in a few moments. A “Please Wait” message displays more than 2-5 minutes during first time Quick Setup. ReplayTV might not be communicating with your network. This may be caused by ReplayTV receiving non-standard DHCP information.
ReplayTV 5500 ReplayTV5.5 UG.book Page 56 Friday, August 1, 2003 10:58 AM My DHCP server is not found during setup and I am forced to enter the information manually. • ReplayTV may not work with all DHCP servers. In some cases, you will simply need to enter the IP address manually. • This may be temporary. Choose Back and try again 2 or 3 times. • If ReplayTV doesn’t detect a link with the network, it will give you the option to specify. Check the back of ReplayTV for a solid green link light.

Some of my jpeg photos do not display. • Open the jpeg file in another program and save it again. • Verify that the jpeg is not progressive jpeg. This format is not supported. Some channel or show information in the Channel Guide is incorrect. • There may be another channel lineup that’s a better fit.
