Operation
• Therechargeablebatteriesareemptyondelivery.Waitforoneortwosunnydaysin
order for the rechargeable batteries to charge suciently and for the house number
to work properly.
You may also remove the rechargeable batteries from the solar house num-
berandchargethemwithastandardNiMHroundcellchargingdevice.
 Whenreinsertingtherechargeablebatteriesintothesolarhousenumber,
observecorrectpolarity(positive/+andnegative/-terminals).
• Pleasenotethat,whencomparedtothesummer,theilluminationperiodcouldbe
shorter during long-lasting bad weather conditions or during wintertime.
Replacing the rechargeable battery
 Rechargeablebatterieshavealimitedlifespan.Replacetherechargeable
batteries when the illumination period is only very short despite sucient
sunlight (or at least every 2 years).
• Removethesolarhousenumberfromthewall.
• Opentherechargeablebatterycompartment by slidingtherechargeablebattery
compartmentcoverupwards;thenremovetherechargeablebatterycompartment
cover.
• Replacethethreerechargeablebatteriesbyrechargeablebatteriesofequivalent
type(seechapter“TechnicalData”).Observecorrectpolarity(positive/+andnega-
tive/- terminals) during installation.
You may also use rechargeable batteries of higher capacity.
• Reinstalltherechargeablebatterycompartmentcoverproperlyandthenlockit.
• Reattachthesolarhousenumbertothewallandmakesureitispositionedsecure-
ly.
Maintenance and cleaning
The product is maintenance-free part from occasionally replacing the rechargeable
battery. The LEDs are permanently installed and non-replaceable.
Maintenanceorrepairsmaybecarriedoutbyaprofessionalonly.
Useaclean,softandslightlydampclothtocleantheproductexterior.
Neveruseanyaggressivecleaningagentsorchemicalsolutionsastheymaycause
damage to the housing or the product to malfunction.
Neverdirectthewaterjetofagardenhoseorofahighpressurecleaneratthesolar
house number in order not to damage the product.
 Cleanthecoverofthesolarcellsapproximatelyonceayear.Dustanddirt
on the solar cell will reduce the charging current and hence the illumination
period.
Disposal
a) General
Do not dispose of the product with your household waste.
 Pleasedisposeofthedeviceattheendofitsservicelifeinaccordancewith
legalregulations;e.g.returnthedevicetoapubliccollectionpoint.
 Removetheinstalledrechargeablebatteriesanddisposeofthemseparately
from the product.
b) Disposing of used rechargeable batteries
Astheenduser,youarelegallyboundtoreturnallusedrechargeablebatteries;dispo-
sing of used rechargeable batteries with household waste is prohibited.
 Rechargeablebatteriescontaininghazardoussubstancesaremarkedwith
the symbol shown opposite, which indicates that disposal with household
waste is prohibited.
 Thedesignations fortheheavymetalsinvolvedare:Cd= Cadmium, Hg=
Mercury,Pb=Lead.
You can dispose of your used rechargeable batteries free of charge at collection
points in your community, at our stores and everywhere batteries are sold!
You thus fulfil your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the envi-
ronment.
Troubleshooting
The LEDs do not activate.
• Removethe plastic strip from the rechargeablebatterycompartmentduringrst
time use.
•The rechargeable batteriesare empty (nosunlighton the solarcellfor a longer
period of time, e.g. during bad weather conditions or wintertime).
• Therechargeablebatteriesarenotproperlyinstalled.
• Thesolarhousenumberisinstalledataninconvenientlocationandthelightofa
streetlamp,forexample,simulatesdaylight.
The LEDs light up only briefly.
• Therechargeablebatteries are empty(nosunlight on thesolar cell foralonger
period of time, e.g. during bad weather conditions or wintertime).
• Therechargeablebatteriesareexhaustedanddonotprovideanypower.Replace
the rechargeable batteries of the solar house number by new ones.
You can also try to discharge and charge the rechargeable batteries with a standard
NiMHroundcellchargingdeviceseveraltimesinorderto“refresh”therecharge-
ablebatteries.Highqualitychargingdevicesoersuchafunction.
