Point size
Point size refers to the height of a font from the bottom of the
lowest descending character (i.e. j or y) to the top of the
highest character (i.e. F or T). Point size is measured in pica
points. One point corresponds to approximately 1/72 of an
inch. A 12 point font is

CHAR. HEIGHT
You can print (e.g. for large envelopes)a font two or three
times normal height while maintaining the character width and
spacing.
CHAR. WIDTH
You can print a font two or three times normal width while
maintaining the proportional character height and spacing. You
may combine CHAR. HEIGHT and CHAR. WIDTH
