INSPECTING BURNERS
Check the pilot ame pattern and burner ame patterns often.
PILOT FLAME PATTERN
Figure 20 shows a correct pilot ame pattern. Figure 21 shows an incorrect pilot ame pattern. The
incorrect pilot ame is not touching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool. When the
thermocouple cools, the heater will shut down. If pilot ame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 21:
• Turn the heater o (see TO TURN OFF GAS TO THE HEATER, pages 21–22).
• See the TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE, page 25.

Do not allow fans to blow directly into the heater. Avoid any drafts that alter
burner ame patterns.
