Programming
a) Programming of full throttle and idle position
Toprogramme thefullthrottle positionforforwards/backwards drives,andthe idleposition,proceed as
follows:
• Switchonthetransmitterandleavethethrottle/brakeleverinidleposition.Movethetrimfordrivefunc-
tiontothemiddle.PathlimitsandABSmustnotbeprogrammed,ifcomputertransmittersareused.Ifthe
programmedoesnotworkasdesired,thecontroldirectionofthethrottlelevermustbesettoreverse.
• Switchoffthespeedcontrollerandthenconnectthedrivebattery.
• Keepthesetupbuttonpresseddownandswitchonthespeedcontrol-
ler.ReleasethesetupbuttonimmediatelywhentheLED(seeimage
ontheright)inthespeedcontrollerstartsashingredandthemotor
emitsasoundsignal.
Thesoundsignaliscausedbybrieyactivationofthebrush-
lessmotor.However,dependingonthemotoritcanbevery
mutedoryoumaynothearit.Inthiscase,payattentiontothe
LEDsonthespeedcontroller.
• Now,presstheprogrammingbuttononcewiththethrottle/brakeleverin
idle.TheLEDonthespeedcontrollerbrieyashesgreen.Themotor
emitsasoundsignal.
• Movethethrottle/brakeleverintofullthrottlepositionforforwardsmovement(pullthethrottle/brakelever
allthewaytowardsthehandle)andholditinthisposition.Now,presstheprogrammingbuttononce.
TheLEDashestwiceingreen.Themotoremitstwosoundsignals.Thefullthrottlepositionforforward
drivingissaved.
• Movethethrottle/brakeleverintofullthrottlepositionforbackwardsmovement(pullthethrottle/brakelever
allthewayforwardsawayfromthehandle)andholditinthisposition.Now,presstheprogrammingbutton
once.TheLEDashesthreetimesingreen.Themotoremitsthreesoundsignals.Thefullthrottleposition
forreversedrivingissaved.
• Releasethethrottle/brakesothatitsitsintheidleposition.NeithertherednorthegreenLEDmustnow
belit.Theprogrammefortheidlepositionissaved.Motorandspeedcontrollerarereadyforoperation
afterapprox.threeseconds.Ifyouswitchonthespeedcontrolleragain,itisnowreadyforoperationwith
thesettingsmadeabove.
b) Programming of special functions
Withaseparatelyavailableprogrammingboard,allpossiblesettingsofthespeedcontrollercan
beprogrammedveryeasily.Payattentiontothenotesatwww.conrad.comonthecorresponding
productpage.
• Connectthespeedcontroller withadrivebattery,presstheprogramming button(keeppressed!)and
switchonthespeedcontroller.TheredLEDashes.
PressandholdtheprogrammingbuttonuntilthegreenLEDashes.
Youarenowintheprogrammingenvironmentandyoucanprogrammethemenuitemsdescribedbelow.
The5menuitemsaredisplayedinanendlessloop.
1xashismenuitem1,2xashesismenuitem2,etc.uptomenuitem5.Subsequently,the
loopstartsagainwithmenuitem1.
Oncethedesiredmenuitemisreached(1,2,3,4or5),youcanreleasetheprogrammingbut-
ton.Youarenowinthesub-menuoftheselectedmenuitem.
TheredLEDnowsignalsthecurrentsettingfortheselectedmenuitem.
• Toselectthedesiredsettinginthesub-menu(fordescription,seec),presstheprogrammingbuttonuntil
theredLEDandtheemittedsoundssignalthedesiredsetting.

• Onceyouhaveselectedandprogrammedthedesiredsetting,switchoffthespeedcontroller.Thiswill
savethesetting.Ifyouwanttoprogrammeanothermenuitem,youmuststarttheprogrammingprocedure
again.
c) Available programming options
Menu item 1 = Drive mode
Here,youcanselectthedrivemode(1=onlyforwardspossible;2=forwardsandreversewithpausewhen
changingpossible;3=forwardsandreversewithoutpausewhenchangingpossible).
Whentogglingbetweenforwardsandreverseindrivemode2,themodeisnotswitchedimmediately,butwith
apausetoprotectthegears,wheelsandbatterycapacity.
Menu item 2 = Motor brake
Ifthethrottleleveronthetransmitterismovedfromtheforwardspositiontoidle,themotorbrakeisactivated.
Thisfunctioncorrespondstothemotorbrakeina“real”car,whenyouliftyourfootofftheacceleratorpedal
butdonotsteponthebrakepedal.
Themotorbrakecanbeprogrammedineightsteps.Thehigherthesetvalue,thestrongerthebrake.The
followingvaluescanbeset:
1=0%;2=5%;3=10%;4=20%;5=40%;6=60%;7=80%,8=100%
Menu item 3 = Low-voltage detection
Thelow-voltagedetectionispossiblefortheoperationofthemodelwithLiPoaswellasNiMHbatteries.
ItisparticularlyrecommendedtoactivatethisfunctionwhenusingLiPobatteriestoavoiddangerousdeep
dischargeofthebatteries.
ForLiPobatteries,thesetvaluesrefertoonevoltagevalueperbatterycell.
Example:When3.0Visset,a2-cellbatterywouldreachthelow-voltagethresholdatabatteryvoltageof
6.0V(2cellsx3.0V=6.0V).Thespeedcontrollerwouldnowswitchoffthemotortoavoiddeepdischarge
ofthebattery.
IfyouuseaNiMHbattery,thecalculationofthenumberofcellsisdonebasedonthebatteryvoltagemeas-
uredbythespeedcontrollerwhenswitchingon.Ifavoltageof9.0to12.0Visdetectedafterswitchingonthe
speedcontroller,itisswitchedoffasifusinga3-cellLiPobattery.Ifavoltageoflessthan9.0Visdetected,
thespeedcontrollerisswitchedoffasifusinga2-cellLiPobattery.
Example:Ifyouconnectafullycharged6-cellNiMHbatterywithapprox.8.4Vofbatteryvoltageandthe
shutdownvoltageper(LiPo)cellissetto2.6V,thelow-voltagedetectionwillswitchoffthemotorwhena
batteryvoltageof5.2V(2x2.6V=5.2V)isreached.
Thefollowingsetupvaluesarepossible:
1=nolow-voltagedetection;2=2.6V/cell;3=2.8V/cell;4=3.0V/cell;5=3.2V/cell,6=3.4V/cell
Werecommendtoset3.2V/cellforLiPobatteries.
Thebatteryvoltageismonitoredpermanently.Ifalow-voltageisdetectedevenmomentarily,the
powerisreducedto50%fortwoseconds.Themotorisswitchedoffafteranother10seconds.
IfthevoltageofaLiPobatteryislessthan3.5Vpercell,thespeedcontrollercannolongerbe
activated.Inthiscase,stopdrivingandrechargethebatteryfully.
Menu item 4 = Start dynamics
Youcansetthestartdynamicsin9stepswiththisfunction.
Thehigherthesetvalue,themoreaggressivethemotorreactstothecontrolcommandsmadeatthetrans-
mitter.Itisimportanttonotethatthebatterycandeliverthecurrentrequiredforthis(useLiPobatterywith
higherC-rate).Ifthemotor“stutters”onthehigheststartdynamicslevelandthebatteryisnotat(orpowerful
enough),thegearratiomighthavetobechanged.
Menu item 5 = Brake effect
Hereyoucansetthebrakeeffectwhenmovingthecontrolleveratthetransmitterduringforwardsdriving
intotheendstoppositionreverse(orbrake).
Thefollowingvaluescanbeset:1=25%;2=50%;3=75%;4=100%.
Thehigherthesetvalue,thestrongerthebrakeeffect.Thehigherthebrakeeffectisset,the
higherthestressexperiencedbygearsandwheels.
d) Restoring factory settings
Ifyoupresstheprogrammingbuttonforapprox.threesecondswiththespeedcontrolswitchedon,thered
andthegreenLEDwillashatthesametime.Afterwards,onlytheredLEDashesandthereforeindicates
thatthefactorysettingswererestored.
Whenrestoringtofactorysettings,allpreviouslymadesettings,includingidlepositionprogrammesarereset.
Afterwards,youmustprogrammethespeedcontrolleragainstartingwiththeprogrammingoftheidleposi-
tion.
Todothis,switchoffthespeedcontrollerandstartre-programming(see“Programmingoffullthrottleand
idleposition”).
Connection to the receiver
Connectthethree-pole plugofthespeedcontroller tothecorrespondingchannelof thereceiver.Make
absolutelysureyouhavethecorrectreceiverconguration(seeoperationinstructionsforthereceiveras
wellastheinscriptiononthereceiver).
Yellow/white/orangeconnectingline:Controlsignal
Redcable:Operatingvoltage
Brown/blackcable:GND/Minus
ThespeedcontrollerfeaturesaBEC.Thismeansthatthebatterysuppliesthereceiverdirectly
withpowerviathespeedcontroller.IftheBECisusedasthepowersupplyofthereceiverunit,
donotuseareceiverbattery!
Important!
IfaseparatereceiverpowersupplyisusedinsteadoftheintegratedBEC,theredwireinthe
middleof thespeedcontroller’s three-pinreceiverplughas tobeinterruptedand insulated.
Failuretocomplywiththisindicationwilldestroythetripcontroller!Thewarrantywillbevoid!
