11. Flying the Model in
After checking the centre of gravity, the motor functions and the rudder surface travel directions, your model is ready
foritsrstight.However,werecommendyoucontactanexperiencedmodelairplanepilotoramodelconstruction
clubinyourareaifyouarenotsureashowtoyinaightmodelproperly.
a) Range Test
Beforethersttake-off,allrechargeablebatteries(e.g.inthetransmitterandightbattery)mustbechargedaccord-
ingtomanufacturerinformation.Firstperformarangetestfortheremotecontrolsystemintheightarea.Switchon
theremotecontrolandthenthereceiver.Nowchecktherangeaccordingtothenotesintheoperatinginstructionsof
your remote control.
b) Take-Off
Generally,itiseasilypossibletostartthemodelonyourown.Fortherstight,however,westillrecommendusinga
launch helper to launch the model from his hand. This way, you have both hands free for steering and can focus fully
on the model. You should always start and land against the wind.
Ourtip:
Inordertobeabletodistinctlyseetheightattitudeofyourmodel,youshouldstandtothesideandbehind
thepersonassistingyouandlookintotheightdirectionofthestartingmodel.
Thestarthelpertakesthemodelatthefuselagebelowthewingswithhisthumbandrstnger.Nowaccelerateslowly
and let the motor run at full output. The launch helper then releases the model straight forwards and against the wind.
Themodelshouldnowriseataatangle.Trytosteeraslittleaspossible.Youcancontroltherisinganglebyreducing
themotoroutputand/ortheelevator.Onlysteerthemodelifitchangesitsightattitudebyitselfande.g.iesacurve,
ascends too high or is about to nose-dive.
Tosensitivelycorrecttheightattitudeandtocarryoutspecicchangesofdirectioninnormalightattitude,shortand
limitedmovementsofthecontrolstickonthetransmitteraresufcient.
Oncethedesiredightheightisreached,reducethemotorperformanceorswitchoffthemotorandinitiatetherst
curve.
c) Curve Flight
Spiralling is initiated with the aileron; the model angles to the side. If the model has reached the desired declination,
theaileronisreturnedbackintocentreposition.Now,thecurvecanbeownataconstantaltitudebygentlypulling
the elevator control stick.
Whenthemodeliesinthedesireddirection,aquickailerondeectionintotheoppositedirectionwillbringthemodel
back to a horizontal position and also return the elevator to the centre position. Try not to take too narrow curves in
thebeginningandobserveevenightheightevenincurves.
