10. Flying the Model In
Havingcheckedthecentreofgravity,themotorfunctionandthedirectionofthedeections,yourmodelisreadyfor
itsrstight.However,werecommendyoucontactanexperiencedmodelairplanepilotoramodelconstructionclub
inyourareaifyouarenotsurehowtoyinanairplanemodelproperly.
a) Range Test
Beforethersttake-off,theinsertedbatteries(e.g.transmitter,receiver,ightbattery)mustbechargedaccordingto
manufacturerinformation.Firstperformarangetestfortheremotecontrolsystemintheightarea.Switchonthe
remote control and then the receiver. Now check the range according to the notes in the operating instructions of your
remote control.
b) The Start
Generally,itiseasilypossibletostartthemodelonyourown.Fortherstight,however,westillrecommendusinga
launch helper to launch the model from the hand. This way, you have both hands free for steering and can focus fully
on the model. You should always start and land against the wind.
Ourtip:
Inordertobeabletodistinctlyseetheightattitudeofyourmodel,youshouldstandtothesideandbehind
thepersonassistingyouandlookintotheightdirectionofthestartingmodel.
Thestarthelpertakesthemodelatthefuselagebelowthewingswithhisthumbandrstnger.Nowaccelerateslowly
and let the motor run at full output. The launch helper then releases the model straight forwards and against the wind.
Themodelshouldnowriseataatangle.Trytosteeraslittleaspossible.Onlysteerthemodelifitchangesitsight
attitudebyitselfande.g.iesacurve,ascendstoohighorisabouttonose-dive.
Tosensitivelycorrecttheightattitudeandtocarryoutspecicchangesofdirectioninnormalightattitude,shortand
limitedmovementsofthecontrolstickonthetransmitteraresufcient.
Oncethedesiredightheightisreached,reducethemotorperformanceorswitchoffthemotorandinitiatetherst
curve.
c) Curve Flight
Spirallingisinitiatedwiththeaileron;themodelanglestotheside.Ifthemodelhasreachedthedesireddeclination,
theaileronisreturnedbackintocentreposition.Now,thecurvecanbeownataconstantaltitudebygentlypulling
the elevator control stick.
Whenthemodeliesinthedesireddirection,aquickregulationoftheaileronintotheoppositedirectionwillbringthe
model back to a horizontal position and also return the elevator to the centre position. Try not to take too narrow curves
inthebeginningandobserveevenightheightevenincurves.
