Task
1. Set the Configure new Adaptive Server option:
Option Description
Adaptive Server
name
Default is the machine name.
Port number Default is 5000.
Error log Name and location of the error log file. Defaults to server-
name.log.
Application type The options are numbered only in console mode:
• 1. (Default) MIXED – both OLTP and DSS.
• 2. OLTP – online transaction processing generally consists of smaller,
less complex transactions.
• 3. DSS – decision-support systems generally have less update activity
with large complex queries.
Page size
• 2KB
• (Default) 4KB
• 8KB
• 16KB
The default page size selection changed to 4KB in Adaptive Server version
15.5. The default in earlier versions was 2KB. If you plan to load database
dumps from an Adaptive Server with a page size that is not 4KB, enter the
page size that matches the database dump.
Language Default: us-english. In typical installations, only us-english is available.
Character set Default is iso-1.
Sort order Default is bin-iso-1.

• Available physical memory for Adaptive Server – the value is 80 percent
of the sum of combined default physical memory and default OS shared
memory. The default is no.
• Available CPU for Adaptive Server – the value is 80 percent of the
physical CPU, with a default minimum of 1. The default is yes.
Note: If the value specified is larger than the available resource for alloca-
tion to the server, the optimize configuration may fail, causing the server to
not start.
