Migrating From Previous Versions
You can upgrade to Nets cape Directory Server 6.x from a previous release of
Directory Server, for example, from D irectory Server versions 4.0, 4.1, 4.11, 4 .12,
4.13, or 5.0. This chapter describes the upgrade process in the following sections:

This chapter does not explain how to upgrade from Innosoft Distributed Directory
Server 4.5.1. That process is described in the Innosoft Distributed D irect ory Server
Transition Guide.
Migration Overview
Before you migrate your di rectory service, you should become familiar with the
new features offered in this release of the Di rectory Server.
The migration process is performed by running the
migrateInstance6 script on
the system where your legacy Directory Server is installed. You m ust shu t down
your directory service before running the migration script.
