1.Printtheseinstructions.
2.Saveallopenles,andexitallprograms.
3.Turnyourcomputeroffandthenonagain.
4.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1.TheThinkPadSetupprogrammainmenuopens.
5.SelectSecurity,usingthecursordirectionalkeystomovedownthemenu.
6.SelectPassword.
7.SelectHardDisk1Password.
8.Apasswordwindowopens.YouarepromptedtoselectUserorUser+Master.SelectUserifyouwant
tosetonlyoneharddiskpassword.Ifyouareanadministratororsupervisor,youcanselectUser+
Mastertosettwopasswords.(Theusercanchangetheuserpasswordlater.)
•IfyouselectUser+Master,dothefollowing:
a.Whenawindowfortypingthenewuserharddiskpasswordopens,typeyournewpasswordin
theEnterNewPasswordeld.PressEnter.
b.IntheConrmNewPasswordeld,retypethepasswordyoujustenteredtoverifyit.PressEnter.
c.Amessagewindowopensandpromptsyoutosetthemasterharddiskpassword.PressEnterto
continue.
d.Awindowfortypingthenewmasterharddiskpasswordopens.Typeyournewpasswordin
theEnterNewPasswordeld.PressEnter.
e.IntheConrmNewPasswordeld,retypethepasswordyoujustenteredtoverifyit.PressEnter.
•IfyouselectUseronly,dothefollowing:
a.Whenawindowfortypingthenewpasswordopens,typeyournewpasswordintheEnterNew
Passwordeld.PressEnter.
Notes:
–YoucansettheminimumlengthofaharddiskpasswordthroughtheSecuritymenu.
–Ifyousetaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters,theharddiskdrivecanbeusedonly
withacomputerthatcanrecognizeaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters.Ifyouthen
installtheharddiskdriveinacomputerthatcannotrecognizeaharddiskpasswordthat
containsmorethansevencharacters,youcannotgetaccesstothedrive.
b.IntheConrmNewPasswordeld,retypethepasswordyoujustenteredtoverifyit.PressEnter.
Attention:Youmightwanttonotedownyourpasswordsandkeeptheminasafeplace.Otherwise,if
youforgettheuserpassword,orbothuserandmasterpasswords,Lenovocannotresetyourpasswords
orrecoverdatafromtheharddiskdrive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoresellerora
marketingrepresentativetohavetheharddiskdrivereplaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafee
willbechargedforpartsandservice.
9.IntheSetupNoticewindowthatisdisplayed,pressEntertocontinue.
10.PressFn+F10.TheSetupConrmationwindowopens.SelectYestosavecongurationchanges
andexit.
Thenexttimeyouturnonyourcomputer,youwillhavetotypetheuserormasterharddiskpasswordin
ordertostartyourcomputerandgetaccesstoyouroperatingsystem.
