Considerationsforconnectinganexternalmonitor
•Wheninstallinganoperatingsystem,youmustinstallthedisplaydriverforyourmonitorthatissupplied
withthecomputer,andthemonitorINFlethatissuppliedwiththeexternalmonitor.
•Ifyousetaresolutionhigherthantheresolutionyouareusingonthecomputermonitor,andusean
externalmonitorthatdoesnotsupportthatresolution,takeadvantageofthevirtualscreenfunction,
whichenablesyoutodisplayonlyapartofthehigh-resolutionscreenimageyourcomputerproduces.
YoucanseeotherpartsoftheimagebymovingthescreenwiththeTrackPointpointingdeviceoranother
pointingdevice.
•Iftheexternalmonitoryouareusingisoutdated,theresolutionandtherefreshratemightbelimited.
Usingaprojector
Tomakepresentations,youcanconnectaprojectortoyourcomputerthroughtheVGAconnectoronyour
computer.
Note:Itmighttakeseveralsecondsbeforetheprojectordisplaystheimage.Ifyoudonotseeyourdesktop
displayedafter60seconds,pressF6toswitchamongdifferentdisplayoutputlocations.
Yourprojectormighthaveoneormoreaudio-inputconnectors.Toprojectsound,youwillneedtoattachthe
comboaudiojackonyourcomputertotheseconnectors,usinganaudiocable(commerciallyavailable).
UsingtheExtenddesktopfunction
YourcomputersupportstheExtenddesktopfunction.WiththeExtenddesktopfunction,youcandisplay
outputonboththecomputerdisplayandanexternalmonitor.Youalsocandisplaydifferentdesktopimages
oneachmonitor.
YoucanusetheExtenddesktopfunctionwithoutchanginganysettings.Ifthefunctiondoesnotwork,refer
to“EnablingtheExtenddesktopfunction”onpage40.
ConsiderationsforusingtheExtenddesktopfunction
•IfyouwanttoshowDOSfull-screenwhileinExtenddesktopmode,onlytheprimarydisplayshows
DOS;theotherdisplayisblackedout.
•IfyourcomputerhastheAMD
®
graphicscard,youcandesignatetheprimarydisplaybydoingthe
following:
1.Right-clickonthedesktopandthenselectScreenresolution.
2.SelectExtendthesedisplaysinMultipleDisplays.
3.Changethesettingtodesignatetheprimarydisplay.
•WhenaprogramusingDirectDraworDirect3Disrunninginfull-screenmode,onlytheprimarydisplay
showstheoutput.
•YoucannotusethedisplayswitchingfunctioninExtenddesktopmode.
EnablingtheExtenddesktopfunction
ToenabletheExtenddesktopfunction,dothefollowing:
1.Connecttheexternalmonitortothemonitorconnector;thenconnectthemonitortoanelectricaloutlet.
2.Turnontheexternalmonitor.
