Problemswiththedisplayandmultimediadevices
Thistopicincludesthemostcommonproblemswithdisplaysandmultimediadevices,includingthe
computerdisplay,theexternalmonitor,audiodevices,andtheopticaldrive.
Computerscreenproblems
•Problem:Thescreenisblank.
Solution:Dothefollowing:
–PressF6tobringuptheimage.
–Ifyouareusingtheacpoweradapter,orusingthebatteryandthebatterygaugeshowsthatthebattery
isnotdepleted,pressF8tomakethescreenbrighter.
–Ifyourcomputerisinsleepmode,pressFntoresumefromthesleepmode.
–Iftheproblempersists,followthesolutionforthefollowingproblem.
•Problem:Thescreenisunreadableordistorted.
Solution:Makesurethat:
–Thedisplaydevicedriverisinstalledcorrectly.
–Thescreenresolutionandcolorqualityarecorrectlyset.
–Themonitortypeiscorrect.
Tocheckthesesettings,dothefollowing:
1.Right-clickonthedesktop,andclickPersonalize.
2.ClickDisplayattheleft.
3.SelectChangedisplaysettings.Checkwhetherthescreenresolutioniscorrectlyset.
4.ClickAdvancedSettings.
5.ClicktheAdaptertab.Ensurethatthecorrectdevicedrivernameisshownintheadapterinformation
window.
Note:Thedevicedrivernamedependsonthevideochipthathasbeeninstalledonyourcomputer.
6.ClickthePropertiesbutton.Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconrmation,type
thepasswordorprovideconrmation.ChecktheDevicestatusboxandmakesurethatthedevice
isworkingcorrectly.Ifnot,clicktheTroubleshootbuttonandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
7.ClicktheMonitortab.Ensurethatthecorrectdevicedrivernameisshownintheadapterinformation
window.

8.ClickthePropertiesbutton.Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconrmation,type
thepasswordorprovideconrmation.ChecktheDevicestatusboxandmakesurethatthedevice
isworkingcorrectly.Ifnot,clicktheTroubleshootbuttonandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
9.ClicktheColorManagementtab.Checkwhetherthecolorqualityiscorrectlyset,andensure
thattheotherinformationalsoiscorrect.Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordor
conrmation,typethepasswordorprovideconrmation.ChecktheDevicestatusboxandensure
thatthedeviceisworkingcorrectly.Ifnot,clicktheTroubleshootbuttonandfollowtheinstructions
onthescreen.
•Problem:Incorrectcharactersaredisplayedonthescreen.
Solution:Didyouinstalltheoperatingsystemorprogramcorrectly?Iftheyareinstalledandcongured
correctly,havethecomputerserviced.
