Parts of the System
One way to understand the system is to look at the different
parts of the system—from the studio down to the satellite
receiver and remote control in your living room.
World View
These parts make up the system “big picture.”
Uplink Center Transmits programming up to the satellite.
Satellite Relays the programming signals back to your satellite
dish. The satellite is parked above the equator, in geostationary
orbit 22,300 miles above the earth.
Satellite Dish Antenna Receives the satellite signals. Because
the satellite is so powerful, the dish can be as small as 18 inches.
Program Provider Authorization Center Processes billing
statements. Your system is linked to the Service Center through
the phone jack on the back of your satellite receiver.
