Using the DVD’s Menu System
40 Chapter 4
Parental Menu
The Parental menu lets you control the types of DVDs that your family watches and how your
DVD will react to discs that contain movies that are rated (in the U.S.A., the Motion Pictures
Association of America rates movies as G, PG, PG-13, etc.). In order for the Parental feature to
work, the disc must be encoded with rating information.
You decide which ratings require a password and which ones don’t. The system ranks the ratings 1
through 8 in order to accommodate different countries’ ratings systems. Rating 1 is considered a
movie title with the most offensive material and rating 8 the least offensive.
Setting the Parental Control
In this section, you will be setting the rating level as well as the password.
1. Press SETUP•MENU on the remote to bring up the menu.
2. Press the right arrow to highlight Parental.
3. Press the down arrow until the Parental option is highlighted.
4. Press left or right arrow or ENTER to enter the rating (1 - 8).
Notes: Rating 1 is considered most offensive and DVD software for adults
cannot be played. Rating 8 is least offensive and all DVD software can be
played.
If you enter a wrong number, press CANCEL.
5. Press the up arrow to highlight Password.
6. Enter your password using the number buttons (0-9) and press
ENTER (the password disappears and padlock icon is locked).
Notes: If you enter a wrong number, press cancel.
The rating level is locked and cannot be changed unless you enter the
correct password.
If you forget your password:
A. Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray.
B. Remove the disc.
C. Press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the tray. “NO DISC” appears on the
TV screen.
D. While holding STOP down on the TV/DVD, press 7 on the remote
control. “Iniitialize” appears on the TV screen.
E. Enter a new password again.
7. Press SETUP•MENU or RETURN to exit the menu.
