INSTALLATION DESKTOP INSTALLATION 1. Plug the coiled cord into the handset. Plug the other end into the jack on the side of the base. 2. Place the handset in the base. 3. Plug the long telephone line cord into the LINE jack on the back of the phone. Plug the other end into a wall jack. 4. Connect the small end of the power supply into the POWER 9V AC jack on the back of the answerer. Plug the other end into an AC power outlet.
WALL MOUNT INSTALLATION NEW AL C 1. Turn the handset hook 180° until it clicks into place. You need to do this so that the handset doesn’t fall out of the base. 6. Feed the short line cord through the grooves provided so that the bottom of the phone is flat and ready to mount on the wall. 7. Connect the other end of the line cord into the wall phone jack. 8. Connect the small end of the power supply into the POWER 9V AC jack on the back of the answerer. Plug the other end into an AC power outlet. The unit beeps once and is ready for setup or to answer calls with the default greeting and settings. 9.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOVING THE ANSWERER: To move the answerer to a different location in the house, follow these instructions: 1. Disconnect the phone line. 2. Go to the electrical outlet and unplug the power supply. 3. Move the unit and phone line to the desired location. 4. Plug in the power supply into an electrical outlet. 5. The display shows that the messages have not been erased. 6. Connect the phone line. 7. Reset the time/date settings or wait for the next call to set them automatically.
SETUP RECORDING THE GREETING Before using your new answerer, you should record a greeting (the announcement callers hear when your answering system answers a call). If you don't record a greeting, callers hear a default greeting which says, "We are unable to take your call. Please leave a message. Thank you for calling." When recording the greeting you should be about 6 inches from the unit. Eliminate as much background noise as possible. 1. Prepare your greeting.
SETTINGS You can customize the following settings to suit your needs. Display Contrast Selects the display contrast. Time/Date Sets the time and date. Local Area Code Sets your local area code for Dial Back. Message Length Sets the length of time allowed for incoming messages. Rings to Answer Selects the number of rings before the unit answers. Remote Access Sets your 3-digit code used for remote access to the unit. Dialing Sets the phone for tone or pulse dialing.
SETTING THE DISPLAY CONTRAST This setting allows you to adjust the display contrast for easier readability. MENU button ENTER button NEW 1. Press and release the MENU button until SET CONTRAST is displayed. The unit announces, “Setup menu. To change setting, use NEXT or PREVIOUS. To save a setting, press ENTER.” AL C 2. SETTING YOUR LOCAL AREA CODE ENTER button 1. If you just adjusted the Time/Date menu, skip to step 2. If you haven’t adjusted any other setting, press MENU button PLAY/STOP and release the MENU button until LOCAL AREA button CODE is displayed. 2. Use NEXT or PREVIOUS to select the first digit. NEW ENTER ERASE L MO ME MENU 4. Repeat steps 2-3 until all the digits of the area code are set. AL C 3. Once the first digit is set, press ENTER.
SETTING THE RINGS TO ANSWER This setting allows you to set the number of rings before the unit answers a call. You can choose from 2-8 or Toll MENU button Saver (see “Toll Saver.”) PLAY/STOP button NEW 1. If you just adjusted the Message Length menu, skip to step 2. If you haven’t adjusted any other setting, press and release the MENU button until SET RINGS TO ANS is displayed. C 2. SETTING THE SECURITY CODE This feature allows you to change the factory default remote access code used for remote access to you answerer. The default code is 123. If you haven’t adjusted any other setting, press and release the MENU button until REMOTE ACCESS is displayed. C ENTER D IA 2. Use NEXT or PREVIOUS to select the first digit.
SETTING THE DIALING MODE This adjustment allows you to select tone (touch-tone) or pulse (rotary) mode dialing. The phone is automatically set for touch-tone use. If you haven’t adjusted any other setting, press and release the MENU button until DIALING is displayed. C 2. MESSAGE VOLUME Use the VOL buttons to adjust the volume when playing back messages and while reviewing or changing the setting. VOL buttons RINGER VOLUME NEW Use the VOL buttons to adjust the loudness of the ringer when the handset is in the cradle of the base. The phone gives a sample ring when adjusting. ANSWERER OPERATION CALL ANSWERING PLAY/STOP button When a call comes in, the unit will ring the number of times set, play the greeting, and record the incoming call. You can: NEW ENTER ERASE L MO ME MENU • Pick up the phone during the greeting. AL C • Answer the call before the unit answers. D IA MESSAGE ETING RE G VOL + L ST O P ON/OFF • Listen to the incoming message (Call screening).
PLAYING MESSAGES Use the PLAY/STOP button to play messages. The unit first plays new messages in the order received. If there are no messages, the unit announces, “You have no messages.” If there are no new messages, the old messages are played back. PLAY/STOP button NEW AL C • To play messages, press and release PLAY/STOP. ENTER • To stop playback, press and release PLAY/STOP again.
ERASE MESSAGES SINGLE MESSAGES You can erase a message itself, leaving the Caller ID information. ERASE button MEMO button NEW • While the message is playing, press and release ERASE. The unit erases the current message and announces, “Message erased.” C AL L MO ME MENU ENTER ERASE D IA MESSAGE ETING RE G VOL + L ST O P ALL MESSAGES ON/OFF MEM DIAL STORE ME SSAGES/CALL ER ID VOL FLASH You can also erase all the old messages only, leaving the new messages and Caller ID information.
MEMORY FULL When the unit's memory is full, it answers after 10 rings and announces, “Memory is full. No messages will be recorded.” A 20-second waiting period follows, allowing you to enter your security code. REMOTE ACCESS You can access your answerer from any touch-tone phone from another location by entering your 3-digit security code (the default security code is 1 2 3, but you can change it.) Be aware that remote functions do not work with rotary or push-button pulse-dialing phones.
The unit waits for a remote command for 20 seconds after the correct security code has been entered. Menu selections can be made while the menu is playing. NOTE: The unit answers on the 10th ring when it is turned off or the memory is full. To access the answerer, enter the 3-digit security code after the beep. If memory is full, play messages and erase some of them to restore memory. NOTE: After the unit plays the remote menu, it waits 20 seconds for a command, then disconnects.
CALLER ID FEATURES The unit receives and displays information transmitted by your local phone company. This information can include the phone number, date, and time; or the name, phone number, date, and time. The unit can store up to 99 calls for later review. NEW AL C VERY IMPORTANT: The Caller ID feature of this product requires a subscription to Caller ID service from your telephone company.
RECEIVING AND STORING CALLS NEW The unit receives and displays information transmitted by your local phone company. This information can include the phone number, date, and time; or the name, phone number, date, and time. When the Caller ID memory is full, a new call automatically replaces the oldest call in memory. NEW appears in the display for calls received that have not been reviewed.
ERASING CALLER ID INFO You can erase a Caller ID record, leaving any associated message. ERASE button DIAL button • While the call info is displayed, press and release ERASE. The unit erases the current Caller ID info and the next record is displayed. NEW AL C You can also erase all Caller ID records, leaving any associated message. L MO ME MENU ENTER ERASE D IA ETING RE G MESSAGE VOL + L ST O P • Press PREV when reviewing the first Caller ID record; the unit displays START OF LIST.
CHANGING THE DIAL BACK FORMAT It may be necessary to change the format of the number to be dialed before using Dial Back. 1. Use PREVIOUS or NEXT to display the Caller ID number you want to dial. DIAL button PLAY/STOP button 2. Press DIAL. The number to be dialed is shown. NEW AL C 3. If you need to add or remove the 1 and/or area code, press and release DIAL until the number is displayed correctly.
MESSAGE INDICATORS The following special messages indicate the status of a message or the unit: 00 CALLS The call record log is empty. UNKNOWN CALLER The incoming call does not have Caller ID service or their service area is not linked to yours. If UNKNOWN NAME appears along with a calling number, the name information for that number was not available. BLOCKED CALL The caller is registered as “Private Number” and the Caller ID information is withheld.
USING THE SPEAKERPHONE SPEAKERPHONE LOCATION For best speakerphone performance, avoid the following: • Areas with high background noise. (The microphone might pick up these sounds and prevent the speakerphone from going into the receiving mode when you finish talking.) • Surfaces affected by vibration. • Recessed areas such as in a corner, under a cupboard, or next to a cabinet, which can generate an echo effect.
TELEPHONE OPERATION RECEIVING A PHONE CALL 1. When the phone rings and the caller’s information shows on the display, lift the handset or press the SPEAKER button and begin your conversation. NEW 2. You can adjust the volume of the caller’s voice by pressing the VOL up or down buttons.
TEMPORARY TONE DIALING NEW If you have pulse service, you can temporarily change from pulse to tone service. After dialing the telephone number, press and release the TONE (*) button on the telephone. This allows access to phone services that require a tone, such as banking and long-distance services. After you hang up the handset, the telephone automatically returns to pulse service.
REDIAL Redial the last number you called by pressing the REDIAL button after you get a dial tone. NEW AL C NOTE: The Redial feature holds in memory the last phone number you dialed (as many as 63 digits). If you pressed any numbers after dialing the phone number, (for example, when accessing a voice-menu system) those numbers also are redialed.
MEMORY You can store up to 13 numbers in memory for quick dialing – 3 in the quick dial buttons and 10 in the keypad ERASE button numbers (0-9). STORE button NEW STORING A NUMBER IN MEMORY AL C 1. Press the STORE button. ENTER TEL. NO. is displayed. 2. Use the keypad to enter the phone number. If you want to add spaces instead of dashes in the number, it will dial correctly.

STORING CALLER ID RECORDS You can also store Caller ID records in memory. Rather than re-entering the information the traditional way, you can store the record in a memory location or quick dial button. STORE button 1. Use the NEXT or PREVIOUS buttons to scroll to the Caller ID record you want to store. NEW ENTER ERASE L MO ME MENU 3. Press the memory location number (0-9 or A, B, C) to store the record. AL C 2. INSERTING A PAUSE IN THE DIALING SEQUENCE NEW AL C Press the REDIAL/PAUSE button to insert a delay in the dialing sequence of a stored telephone number when a pause is needed to wait for a dial tone (for example after you dial 9 for an outside line, or to wait for a computer access tone). DIALING A QUICK DIAL NUMBER 1. Pick up the handset or press SPEAKER. 2. Press A,B, or C. The number dials automatically. STORE button DIAL button NEW IMPORTANT: If you make test calls to emergency numbers, remain on the line and explain the reason for the call. Also, make these calls in off-peak hours, such as early morning or late evening.
CHAIN DIALING FROM MEMORY Use this feature to make calls which require a sequence of numbers, for instance if you use a calling card for a frequently called long distance number. Basically, you dial each part of the sequence from memory. GENERAL PRODUCT CARE To keep your product working and looking good, follow these guidelines: • Avoid putting it near heating appliances and devices that generate electrical noise (for example, motors or fluorescent lamps). • DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or moisture. • Avoid dropping product and/or other rough treatment. • Clean with a soft cloth. • Never use a strong cleaning agent or abrasive powder because this will damage the finish.
TELEPHONE NETWORK INFORMATION Should your equipment cause trouble on your line which may harm the telephone network, the telephone company, where practicable, may notify you that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. Where prior notice is not practicable and the circumstances warrant such action, the telephone company may temporarily discontinue service immediately.
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS PHONE Problem Explanation/Solution No dial tone. Won't dial out. • Check the hook switch to make sure it pops up. • Make sure the tone/pulse setting is programmed correctly. Phone doesn’t ring. • Check the ringer volume. • Could have too many phones on one line. (See FCC registration information regarding REN) Low handset or speaker volume. • Check the volume settings. Light and tone feedback flutter when dialing in pulse mode.
ANSWERER Problem Explanation/Solution Doesn’t answer, or answers on 10th ring. • Make sure the answerer is turned on. • Memory is full, erase some messages. • Check the AC power and phone line connections. Incoming messages are incomplete. • Was an extension phone picked up? • The caller left a message that is longer than the message length you set during setup. • Memory is full. Won’t respond to remote commands. • Must use a touch-tone phone. • Must enter the correct security code.
Problem Explanation/Solution Can't hear messages. • Adjust the volume control. Greeting continues to play even after an extension phone is picked up. • This is normal operation. Auto disconnect is delayed for 1 second after the unit answers a call. If you are near the unit, press PLAY/STOP to stop the greeting. No information is shown after the phone rings. • Be sure to wait until the second ring before answering. • Check all cabling to make sure that all connections are secure and not damaged.

PROGRAMMATION ENREGISTREMENT DU MESSAGE D’ACCUEIL Avant d’utiliser votre nouveau répondeur, enregistrez un message d’accueil (le message que les appelants entendent quand le répondeur répond aux appels). Si vous n’enregistrez pas de message d’accueil, les appelants entendent un message par défaut similaire à celui-ci: «Nous ne pouvons répondre en ce moment. Veuillez laisser un message. Merci d’avoir appelé.» Placez-vous à environ 6 pouces de l’appareil pour enregistrer le message d’accueil.

FONCTIONNEMENT DU RÉPONDEUR RÉPONSE AUX APPELS Boutons PLAY/STOP Quand un appel est reçu, l’appareil sonne le nombre de fois programmé, fait jouer le message d’accueil et enregistre le message reçu. ÉCOUTE DES MESSAGES Utilisez le bouton PLAY/STOP pour écouter les messages. L’appareil fait d’abord jouer les nouveaux messages dans l’ordre de réception. S’il n’y a pas de messages, l’appareil annonce : “You have no messages.” S’il n’y a pas de nouveaux messages, les anciens rejouent. EFFACEMENT DES MESSAGES UN SEUL MESSAGE Vous pouvez effacer un message et laisser l’information Bouton ERASE de l’appelant. NEW • Pendant que le message joue, appuyez sur ERASE. L’appareil efface le message en cours et annonce «Message erased.
MÉMOIRE PLEINE Quand la mémoire de l’appareil est pleine, ce dernier répond après 10 sonneries et annonce «Memory is full. No messages will be recorded.» Une période d’attente de 20 secondes suit pour permettre d’entrer votre code de sécurité. ACCÈS À DISTANCE Vous pouvez accéder à votre répondeur à partir de tout téléphone à tonalité à distance ; il suffit d’entrer votre code de sécurité à 3 chiffres (le code de sécurité à par défaut est 123, mais vous pouvez le changer).
L’appareil attend une commande à distance pendant les 20 secondes qui suivent l’entrée du bon code de sécurité. Vous pouvez choisir les éléments de menu pendant que le menu joue. REMARQUE : L’appareil répond à la 10e sonnerie quand il est éteint ou que la mémoire est pleine. Pour accéder au répondeur, entrez le code de sécurité à 3 chiffres après le bip. Si la mémoire est pleine, écoutez les messages et effacez-en quelquesuns pour rétablir la mémoire.
CARACTÉRISTIQUES DE L’AFFICHEUR NEW L’appareil reçoit et affiche l’information transmise par la compagnie de téléphone. Cette information peut comprendre le numéro de téléphone, la date et l’heure ; ou le nom, le numéro de téléphone, la date et l’heure. L’appareil peut mémoriser un maximum de 99 appels pour consultation ultérieure. AL C TRÈS IMPORTANT : La fonction Afficheur de ce produit exige que vous soyez abonné au service d’afficheur offert par la compagnie de téléphone.
RÉCEPTION ET MÉMORISATION DES APPELS NEW AL C L’appareil reçoit et affiche l’information transmise par la compagnie de téléphone. Cette information peut comprendre le numéro de téléphone, la date et l’heure ; ou le nom, le numéro de téléphone, la date et l’heure. Quand la mémoire de l’afficheur est pleine, un nouvel appel remplace automatiquement le plus ancien message en mémoire. NEW est affiché pour les appels reçus mais non consultés.
EFFACEMENT DE L’INFORMATION DE L’APPELANT Vous pouvez effacer un dossier d’appelant et laisser le message associé. Bouton ERASE NEW • Pendant que l’information est affichée, appuyez sur ERASE. L’appareil efface l’information de l’appelant et affiche le dossier suivant. Bouton DIAL C ENTER Vous pouvez aussi effacer tous les dossiers d’appelant et laisser les messages associés.

INDICATEURS DE MESSAGES Les messages spéciaux suivants indiquent l’état d’un message ou de l’appareil : 00 CALLS Le répertoire des dossiers d’appelants est vide. UNKNOWN CALLER L’appelant n’est pas abonné au service d’afficheur ou son service n’est pas relié au vôtre. Si UNKNOWN NAME apparaît avec un numéro d’appelant, l’information sur le nom n’est pas disponible. BLOCKED CALL L’appelant a un « numéro confidentiel » et l’information est retenue.
UTILISATION DU TÉLÉPHONE À MAINS LIBRES EMPLACEMENT DU HAUT-PARLEUR Pour tirer le maximum du haut-parleur, évitez ce qui suit: • Les endroits très bruyants. (Le microphone peut capter ces bruits et empêcher le haut-parleur de passer en mode de réception quand vous avez terminé de parler). • Les surfaces sensibles aux vibrations. • Les endroits en retrait, comme un coin, sous une armoire ou près d’une armoire, qui peuvent produire un écho.
FONCTIONNEMENT DU TÉLÉPHONE RÉCEPTION D’UN APPEL 1. COMPOSITION PAR TONALITÉ TEMPORAIRE NEW AL C S vous êtes abonné au service à impulsions, vous pouvez temporairement remplacer la composition par impulsions par la composition par tonalité. Après avoir composé la numéro de téléphone, appuyez sur le bouton TONE (*) du téléphone. Ceci permet d’accéder aux services téléphoniques qui exigent une tonalité, comme les services bancaires et les services interurbains. Quand vous raccrochez le combiné, le téléphone retourne automatiquement au service à impulsions.
RECOMPOSITION Pour recomposer le dernier numéro composé, il suffit d’appuyer sur le bouton REDIAL après le signal de manœuvre. NEW AL C REMARQUE : La fonction Recomposition mémorise le dernier numéro de téléphone composé (maximum de 63 chiffres). Si vous avez appuyé sur des chiffres après avoir composé le numéro de téléphone (par exemple, quand vous activez un système de menu vocal), ces chiffres sont aussi recomposés.

INSERTION D’UNE PAUSE DANS LA SÉQUENCE DE COMPOSITION NEW AL C Appuyez sur le bouton REDIAL/PAUSE pour insérer une pause dans la séquence de composition d’un numéro mémorisé quand une pause est requise pour attendre un signal de manœuvre (par exemple, après avoir fait le 9 pour obtenir une ligne extérieure, ou pour attendre une tonalité d’accès à un ordinateur). Chaque pause compte comme 1 chiffre dans la séquence de composition.
COMPOSITION D’UN NUMÉRO À COMPOSITION ABRÉGÉE 1. Décrochez le combiné ou appuyez sur SPEAKER. Bouton STORE Bouton DIAL 2. Appuyez sur A, B ou C. Le numéro est composé automatiquement. NEW AL C IMPORTANT: Si vous effectuez des appels d’essai aux numéros d’urgence, demeurez en ligne et expliquez la raison de votre appel. De plus, faites de tels essais en dehors des heures de pointe, comme tôt le matin ou tard le soir.
COMPOSITION EN CHAÎNE À PARTIR DE LA MÉMOIRE Utilisez cette fonction pour faire des appels exigeant une séquence de numéros, par exemple si vous utilisez une carte d’appel pour un numéro d’interurbain souvent appelé. SOINS ET ENTRETIEN Voici quelques conseils simples pour préserver le bon fonctionnement et l’apparence de ce téléphone: • Éviter de placer le téléphone près d’un appareil de chauffage ou d’un appareil produisant du bruit électrique (ex. : moteurs, lampes fluorescentes, etc.). • Ne pas exposer le téléphone directement au soleil ou à l’humidité. • Éviter d’échapper le combiné et de l’utiliser abusivement. • Nettoyer le téléphone avec un chiffon doux.
INFORMATION SUR LE RÉSEAU TÉLÉPHONIQUE Si cet appareil provoque des dérangements sur la ligne et, par conséquent, sur le réseau téléphonique, la compagnie de téléphone signalera, s’il y a lieu, qu’elle doit temporairement interrompre le service. Si elle est dans l’impossibilité de le faire et que les circonstances dictent une telle mesure, la compagnie de téléphone peut immédiatement interrompre le service pendant un certain temps.
CONSEILS DE DÉPANNAGE TÉLÉPHONE Problème Explication/solution Aucun signal de manœuvre. Impossible de communiquer. • Vérifiez l’interrupteur-crochet pour s’assurer qu’il ressort. • Assurez-vous que le réglage de tonalité/ impulsions est correctement programmé. Le téléphone ne sonne pas. • Vérifiez le volume de la sonnerie. • Il y a peut-être trop de postes sur la même ligne. (Voir l’information sur l’enregistrement de la FCC concernant l’indice de charge. Volume faible du combiné ou du haut-parleur.
RÉPONDEUR Problème Explication/solution Ne répond pas, ou répond au 10e coup. • Assurez-vous que le répondeur est activé. • La mémoire est pleine. Effacez quelques messages. • Vérifiez le courant c.a. et les connexions de la ligne téléphonique.
