Intrinsically Safe
Intrinsically Safe Classication
“Intrinsically Safe” is a re safety rating given
to the equipment by SGS North America Inc.
according to ANSI/UL 913 (U.S.) and CSA C22.2
No. 157 (Canada) certication standards.
When the equipment is given this rating, it is
considered safe to use in certain ammable
or combustible atmospheres. Flammable
atmospheres have been categorized by Class,
Division, and Group as described below:
I.S. Classes I, II, III, Division 1,
Groups CDEFG, T3
Class Material
I Gas, Vapor, Liquid
II Dust
III Fiber, Flying
Area Classication:
Division Description
1 An area where there is or could be
an explosive atmosphere most of
the time under normal operating
conditions
2 An area where an explosive
atmosphere exists only under fault
conditions
