9.1Radaroverview
Radarisusedtoprovideinformationthatcanhelpyoutotrack
targetsandmeasuredistancesandbearings.
RadioDetectionAndRanging(RADAR)isusedatseatodetectthe
presenceofobjects(knownas‘targets’)atadistance,andifthey
aremoving,detecttheirspeed.
Radarworksbytransmittingradiopulses,thendetectingreections
ofthesepulses(echoes)fromobjectsintheareaanddisplayingthe
reectionsastargetsonyourdisplay.
Untilyouarefamiliarwithinterpretingtheradardisplay,every
opportunityshouldbetakentocomparetheradarscreenpatterns
withvisualtargets,suchasotherboats,buoysandcoastal
structures.Youshouldpractiseharborandcoastalnavigationduring
daylighthoursandinclearweatherconditions.
HDandSuperHDdigitalradar
Yourmultifunctiondisplaycanbeusedwithdigitalradarscanners.
HDandSuperHDDigitalradarscannersprovidearangeof
advantages,makingiteasiertodiscernobjectsaroundyourvessel.
HDandSuperHDDigitalradarscannersprovide:

DualRangeoperation.
SuperHDoption.Thiseffectivelyincreasesthetransmitterpower
byafactorofatleast2,andreducesthebeamwidthbyasimilar
amount.

usetheSuperHDoption.
9.2HDandSuperHDdigitalradarscan
speed
Ifyourscannersupportsmultiplespeeds,youcanadjustthescan
speed.
RadarscanspeedissetupusingtheDigitalScannerSetupMenu,
accessiblefromtheRadarSetupmenu.Whenthesystemdetectsa
scannerthatiscapableofoperatingatboth24RPMand48RPM,
twooptionsareprovidedforscannerspeed:
24RPM
Auto
Ifyourdigitalradarscanneronlyoperatesat24RPM,thescanner
speedoptionisdisabled.Otherwise,youmustselecttheAuto
option,whichwillautomaticallyswitchbetweenthe24RPMand48
RPMscanspeeds,asappropriate.

Thespeedoptionrequiresa48RPMcompatibleHDorSHDdigital
radarscanner.
Selectyourradarscannerspeedfromwithintheradarapplication.
1.PresstheMENUbutton.
2.SelectRadarSetup>ScannerSpeedmenuoptions.
3.SelecttheScannerSpeedmenuitemandtheappropriatespeed
