raymarine vhf communications
Raymarine's communications systems combine innovative, state-of-the-art technology
with rugged waterproof construction, designed to withstand life at sea.
Select the right radio for your boat – single or multi-station VHFs, Class D DSC (Digital
Selective Calling) with SeaTalk and NMEA connectivity. Whether blue water cruising or
fishing inshore, Raymarine have what you need for communication safety at sea.
What is DSC?
Digital Selective Calling (DSC) is a global protocol that uses channel 70 (156.525
MHz) to transmit and receive digital messages. It works on DSC equipped VHF radios
and is used for individual, ‘all ships’ and distress calls. DSC also enables you to
selectively alert single or multiple boaters of incoming VHF calls by using stored MMSI
(Maritime Mobile Station Identifier) numbers, similar to making a phone call.
You can also poll another boat to obtain its GPS position and display it on a
Raymarine multifunction display.
DSC safety digital Mayday.
If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself having to make a mayday call, the
last thing you need is extra complication. Making a DSC distress call is simple with
Raymarine’s DSC equipped VHFs. Just press the button, clearly marked in the back
of the handset, and GPS position and time information are transmitted in a digital
‘packet’ complete with the vessel’s Maritime Mobile Station Identifier (MMSI) telling
other ships and shore stations exactly where you are and that you are in a distress
situation. This simple procedure can dramatically increase your chance of a successful
rescue compared to a traditional Mayday voice call.
The Ray240E is a combination VHF radio and Class D DSC communications
system designed for easy integration with Raymarine products.
The system operates from a waterproof cell-phone-style handset, with a
loudspeaker for exterior or interior use, and a base station that can be
mounted out of sight.
Add a second handset and powered speaker for full function VHF and DSC
communications on each handset and an intercom between stations.
Add a hailer horn (optional) to the built-in programmable auto fog alert
and multiple siren alert tones to turn your 240E into a VHF hailer foghorn
combination.
DSC Position Request polls other DSC equipped vessels and displays their
position on screen. Connect the 240E with a compatible chartplotter for a
DSC ‘pop up’ alert, making it easy to navigate to another vessel's transmitted
position, be it a friend’s boat or a ‘digital mayday’ location.
