Appendix D: OverView Program
Introducing OverView
OverView is the PC Windows 95/98 program that provides an interface with the MasterConsole MX
4
enabling the
administrator to perform the following functions:
• Maintenance of MX
4
configuration data in a Windows environment.
• Uploading and downloading of MX
4
configuration data to a PC
• Real-time log of MX
4
activity with reporting capabilities.
OverView is designed to run on a PC, with a DB9 serial COM connector, running Windows 95 or Windows 98.
The OverView kit includes the following parts:
• 1 Floppy Diskette containing OverView and setup programs
• 1 DB9(F) to RJ11 serial port adapter (part number A9FRJ11)
• 1 4-wire telephone cord
Installing OverView
1. Insert the OverView diskette into the floppy drive—assumed to be A.
2. Click the Windows Start button and then click on the R
un button. Either type—A:\setup.exe—into the Open
window—or use the B
rowse button and select “Setup.exe” —and then click on OK. Follow the step by step
instructions to complete the OverView program installation. Setup will install the program in C:\Program
Files\MC OverView

Connecting PC to MX

1. Plug the DB9 to RJ11 adapter (A9FRJ11) into PC’s DB9 serial port. If your PC has only a DB25 serial port,
you need to convert it to DB9 using a standard DB25 to DB9 adapter available from your local PC store.
2. Plug one end of the 4-wire telephone cord into the RJ11 port on the adapter and the other end into the MX
4
RJ11 Admin port.
