5.4 NMEA 0183
The NMEA 0183 is a specification created by the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) that
defines the interface between other marine electronic equipment.
The standard permits marine electronics to send information to computers and to other marine
equipment.
GPS receiver communication is defined within this specification.
The actually supported version is 2.2
The provided NMEA sentences are :
GGA Time, position and fix type data.
GLL Latitude, longitude, UTC time of position fix and status.
GSA
GPS receiver operating mode, satellites used in the position solution
and DOP values.
GSV
The number of GPS satellites in view satellite ID numbers, elevation,
azimuth, and SNR values.
VTG Course and speed information relative to the ground.
RMC Time, date, position, course and speed data.
NOTE: By Default the NMEA serial port (on pins 35 and 41) provides the following sentences:
GGA, GSA, GSV, RMC.
In order to select the required sentences or to enable also the VTG and GLL you could use the
NMEA command $PSRF103 (refer to the related paragraph)
