VGA
Video Controller Hardware
The EPC-33/34 contains a Super VGA (SVGA) graphics controller using the Cirrus
Logic SVGA CL-GD7543 “Viking” chip. This is connected to the CPU local bus to
give the best possible graphics performance. SVGA memory is 1024 Kbytes,
implemented with two 256Kx16 DRAMs. This provides standard VGA modes on a
CRT or flat panel display. The Viking chip provides SVGA modes up to 800x600 on
flat panel displays, and CRT displays of 800x600 in 65,536 (64K) colors, and
1024x768 in 256 colors (non-interlaced).
Display Drivers and Utilities Software
The SVGA Driver and Utilities Software is supplied by Cirrus Logic. There are two
diskettes: one for DOS and one for Windows 3.1x. Be sure to check for READ.ME
files on both diskettes before starting the installation. Portions of Appendix E are
copyrighted by Cirrus Logic, Inc.
For DOS users, the CLMODE utility program is used to configure flat panel
options, define the type of monitor attached, and set the video modes supported by
the Cirrus Logic chipset. CLMODE is supplied with your Cirrus Logic SVGA
software. The following section describes these utilities and how to use them.
For Windows users, the WINMODE utility is used to configure Windows for use
with the Cirrus Logic chipset, just as CLMODE works for DOS.
