Installing SFPs
TheRTMhassocketsthatacceptSFP(smallform‐factorpluggable)transceivermodules.
ThesemodulesprovideexternalconnectionstotheEthernetinterfaces,andtheycanbe
installedontheRTMatanytime.ThesocketsarelocatedonthefaceplateoftheRTM,as
showninFigure4onpage19.
Configuration recommendations
TheRTMsupportsuptotwoSFPtransceivers.StandardRTMconfigurat ionscomewithSFP
fillerplugsinstalledinunusedsocketstoprotecttheinternalRTMcomponents.Foralistof
testedandqualifiedtransceivers,seetheComponentCompatibilityReportinthe
AdvancedTCAdownloadssectionoftheRadisysWebsiteatwww.Radisys.com/downloads.
Transceiver installation
Theillustrationshowsthecorrectorientation
forinsertinganSFPtransceiver.Thetransceiver
mayvaryinappearance,butthesameinsertion
guidelinesshouldbeused.
1. ObeytheESDproceduresinElectrostatic
dischargeonpage7tomakesureyouare
adequatelygrounded.
2. RemovetheRTMandthetransceiversfrom
theirantistaticbags.
3. OntheRTMfaceplate,removethefiller
plugsfromthesocketswherethe
transceiverswillbeinstalled.Forsocketsnot
beingused,keepthefillerplugsinplace.
Theplugsprotectthesockets,control
airflow,andpreventelectromagnetic
interference.
4. Makesurethelatchonthecableendofthe
transceiverisclosed.ThismakestheSFP
snapintopositionwhenitisinsertedinto
thesocket.
5. Holdthetransceivernearthecableendandturntheconnectorsidetothecorrect
positiondependingontheRTMorientation:
•IftheRTMisvertical,turnthetransceiversotheconnectorsideisontheright.
•IftheRTMishorizontal,turnthetransceiversotheconnectorsideisdown.
