IPMC description
ThehardwaremanagementsystemoftheCPMiscontrolledbyanIPMC,whichcomprises
amicrocontroller,anIPMCFPGA,andEEPROMsforIPMCdatastorage.TheIPMCinteracts
withtheCPM’sCPUandtheShelfManagerto:
monitortemperature,voltage,andothersensorsontheCPM
controlandmonitorthehotswapprocessfortheCPM,AMC,andRTM
•interactwiththeShelfManagertoimplementbackplaneEKeying
•manageonboardEKeyingfortheAMCandtheRTM
•provideremoteconsoleaccesstotheCPMpayload
UsingserialoverLANcommunications,theIPMCprovidesaremoteuserwithaccessto
theCPUserialconsolethroughthebaseinterface.Formoreinformation,seeSerialover

TheCPM'sCPUcommunicateswiththeIPMCthroughakeyboardcontrollerstyle(KCS)
interface,whichprovidesaccesstoIPMIfunctions.ThisallowstheCPUtosendmessages
totheCPM'sIPMCortoanyothermanagementcontrollerintheshelf.Foralistofthe

IPMC microcontroller
TheIPMCsmicrocontrollerisaRenesasH8S/2166microcontroller.Thisdeviceisa
generalpurpose32bitmicrocontrollerwithsixteen16bitgeneralregisters.Itcanhandle
a16MBlinearaddressspace;italsocontains512KBofembeddedflashand40 KBof
RAM.
TheIPMCmicrocontrollerprovidestheonlyconnectionbetweentheCPMandthe
externalATCAshelfIPMBs.ThemicrocontrollerimplementssixI
