fourGbEports.OnecontrollerisusedforthetwoGbEBaseinterfacechannels,andthe
otherisusedforthefrontpanelandRTMEthernetports.
EachcontrollerhastwoindependentnetworkinterfacesthatsupportSerDes(serializer‐
deserializer),SGMII,orMDI(copper)protocols.Eachcontrollerisconnectedtoax4PCIe
portthatoperatesat2.5Gbpsandiscapableofnegotiatingx2andx1linkwidths.
TheEthernetcontrollersprovidevirtualizationsupportincludingPCI‐SIGsingle‐rootI/O
virtualization,VMDq2supportforupto8virtualmachinesand16TXandRXqueues.A
systemmanagementbus(SMBus)interfacesupportspass‐throughtrafficforSerial‐over‐
LANfromtheIPMC.
EachEthernetcontrollerhasaprivate128‐KBSPIEEPROMforstoringinitializationdata
andmediaaccesscontrol(MAC)addresses.Duringpowerup,theinitialconfiguration
informationforthecontrollers(includingmanagementsetupandSMBusaddresses)is
readfromtheseEEPROMs.RefertoOverviewoffirmwareupdatesonpage 87for
informationaboutupdatingtheEEPROMsoftware.
ThecontrollershavetwofullyintegratedgigabitEthernetMACandPHY(physicallayer)
