UpperMajortemperatureeventsma yindicatethattheambienttemperatureistoohigh,in
whichca seyoumightneedtolowertheambienttemperature.Theymayalsoindicatethatair
flowintotheshelfhasbecomerestricted,inwhichcaseyouneedtoinvestigatethecause.
Remove,clean,andreinsert
thefanfilterifithasbecomeclogged.
UpperMinorandUpperMajortemperatureeventassertionscausethefanspeedstoincrease
inincrementsuntiltheconditioniscleared.Ade‐assertioneventfromthesamesensor
indicatesthattheconditioniscleared,andthefanspeedisdecreasedaccordingly.Apattern
oftemperatureeventassertionsandde‐assertionsmayleadtoanincreaseintheminimum
fanspeed.Formoreinformation,seeAdaptivefanflooralgorithmonpage 34.
WhentheShelfManagerreceivesanUpperCriticaltemperatureevent,itattemptstopower
offthemoduleassociatedwiththesensor.Evenwhilepoweredoff,thesensorsarestill
functional.Thealarmconditionmaynotbeclearedimmediately,ifatall,sothefansmay
continuetorunatahighspeed.
IPMB and communication alarms
TheIPMBandcommunicationalarmsindicateanabnormalconditionforanIPMCIPMB
interfaceorforcommunicationsbetweentheShelfManagerandagivenFRU.
FRUcommunicationlostalarmsaregeneratedbytheresourceinsteadofbyasensor.IPMB
alarmsaregeneratedbyOEMsensors.AnOEMsensorhasan8‐bitvalueandisdefinedbyan
OEM.OEMsensorsareasubsetofthediscretesensortype,whichcanhaveupto16bit‐
mappedstates.
Shelf Manager status alarms
TheShelfManagerstatusalarmsindicatethattheShelfManagerisnotfunctioningnormally
orinfullhighavailability(HA)mode.
ShelfManagerstatusalarmsaregeneratedbyOEMsensors.AnOEMsensorhasan8‐bit
valueandisdefinedbyanOEM.OEMsensorsareasubsetofthediscretesensortype,which
canhaveupto16bit‐mappedstates.
FRU aggregate status alarms
TheFRUaggregat estatusalarmsindicatethataFRUhassignificanterrorconditions.These
couldinclude:
•OperationalerrorconditionssuchasIPMCself‐testfailureorE‐Keyingerrors.
•Powerstatuserrorsbasedonthreshold crossings.
Note:AnadditionaltemperatureaggregatesensorexistsonallFRUresources.Thoughthis
sensordoesnotgenerateseparatealarmsandevents,youcanreaditforanoverallviewof
theboard’sthermalstatus.ThermalconditionsofaFRUwillgeneratealarmsfromassociated
temperaturesensors.
