switchoveroperationinwhichtherolesoftheShelfManagersareswapped,theLEDflashes
rapidlyonthe ShelfManagerthatismovingfromstandbymodetoactivemodeuntilthe
switchoveriscomplete.ArapidlyflashingamberLEDindicatesthattheShelfManageris
preparingitshighavailabilityrole.AfterashelfpoweruporanSCMreboot,youmightseethe
amberLEDflashingrapidlybeforeitbecomessteadyinactivemodeorslowlyblinkingin
standbymode.

TheHPIShelfManagerresourcecontainsastandardsensorthatmonitorstheShelf
Manager’sredundancystatus.TheShelfManagerredundancysensorisadiscretesensorthat
indicatesiftheShelfManagerisredundantatanypointoftime.Fordescriptions,seethe
virtualShelfManagerresourceRPTentrysectionoftheSAFMappingSpecification.
TheShelfManagersareconsideredredundantwhenthefollowingconditionsaremet:
1. TheactiveShelfManagerhasestablishedthepresenceofthestandbyShelfManager
usingadedicatedIPMIoveraLANsessionoverthesynchronizationchannel.
2. ThestandbyHPIserverhassuccessfullycompletedtheinitialrefreshsyncwiththeactive
HPIserver.
3. TheactiveandstandbyShelfManagershaveestablishedthattheyarerunningthesame
softwareversion.
Whenalloftheaboveconditionsaremet,theShelfManagerredundancysensorreportsthe
eventstateSAHPI_ES_FULLY_REDUNDANT,signifyingfullredundancyhasbeenachieved.
Ifthefirsttwoconditionsare
notmet,theShelfManagerredundancysensorreportsthe
eventstateSAHPI_ES_REDUNDANCY_LOST_SUFFICIENT_RESOURCES,signifyingthatthe
ShelfManagersarecurrentlynotredundant,buttheactiveShelfManagerisstillcapableof
managingtheshelf.Associatedalarmsarecreat edwhenredundancyislostbetweentheShelf
Managers.
Ifthethirdconditionisnotmet,theShelfManagerredundancysensorreportstheeventstate
SAHPI_ES_REDUNDANCY_DEGRADED,signifyingthattheShelfManagerisstillfully
functional,butthatanynewfeaturesavailablewiththelatersoftwareversionaredisabled.
Thisconditionisnotconsideredanalarmandnoalarmislogged;however,aneventis
generated.
