Theshelfcontainsanon‐volatilestoragedevicethatstoresshelfFRUinformation,including
detailsoftheshelfitselfandtheshelfconfiguration.TheMultiRecordareaoftheshelfFRU
informationcontainsdatasuchasshelfaddressing,powermanagement,andE‐Keyrecords.A
proxyFRUmakesthisinformationavailable
totheShelfManager.Redundantcopiesofthe
shelfFRUinformationarestoredontheshelfmanagementserver(ShMS)filesystem.
Hardware platform interface (HPI)
AlthoughIPMIoverLANcanbeusedtocommunicatebetweentheShelfManagerandsystem
manager,HPIprovidesahigherlevelinterfacethatcanbeusedgenericallyasamanagement
interfaceforhighlyavailablesystems.ImplementingtheHPIinterface intheShelfManager
allowsmuchoftheautonomousshelfmanagementfunctionalitytobeterminatedatthe
ShelfManagerandaclean,portableinterfacetobepresentedtothesystemmanagerusing
HPI.Furthermore,thisHPIinterfaceallowssystemmanagementsoftwaretobeeasily
portabletoanyHPI‐compliantplatform,includingnon‐AdvancedTCAplatformssuchas
CompactPCI.

System manager
Asystemmanagerisahigh‐levelmanagementapplicationthatmaymanageentitiesranging
fromasingleshelftomultiplesystems.Thesystemmanagerusesthecapabilitiesand
interfacesprovidedbyshelfmanagementtomanagetheATCAshelf.Althoughasystem
managerisnotdeliveredwithRadisysATCAproducts,theinterfacebetweentheShelf
Managerandasystemmanagerisdescribedinthismanual.
