Restoring shelf FRU information
TheprocedurebelowisusefulwhentheshelfFRUinformationisbadandneedstobe
replacedintheshelfFRUdevice(s).ThisprocedureappliestoallRadisysshelvesex ceptforthe
ATCA‐6002shelf.
TowritetotheshelfFRUdevice:
1. LogintoanysystemwithLANconnectivitytotheSCM.
2. LocateashelfFRUinformationimagetocopytoallneededlocationsandplaceitonthe
samesystemwhereyouperformthisprocedure.
Possiblesourcesofanimageinclude:
•CachedcopiesthattheactiveandstandbySCMskeepin
/var/lib/shmgr/ShelfFruCopy.bin
•ThefilesuppliedintheRadisyssoftwaredistribution(seethefilesfortheshelvesin
theATCA‐6xxxdirectory)
•Afileyouhavemanuallysaved(seeSavingFRUinformationtoafileonpage 133)
3. IfusingtheShelfFruCopy.binfileontheSCM,renameorcopythisfiletoanotherdirectory.
4. Deletethe/var/lib/shmgr/ShelfFruCopy.binfilefromboththeactiveandstandbySCMs.
5. WritetheimagetotheshelfFRUdevicethroughtheproxydeviceusingthiscommand:
rsys‐ipmitool‐t<IPMB>fruwrite1<image>
<SCM_IP>
istheIPaddressoftheSCM(usually127.0.0.1whenexecutedfromtheSCM
itself).
<IPMB>istheIPMBaddressofaproxyFRUthatgivesaccesstotheshelfFRUdevice.See
IPMBaddressesofslotsandFRUsonpage 134foraddresses.UsetheproxyFRUforyour
shelfmodel:
• For theATCA‐6000,usetheIPMBaddressofthevirtualSPM.
•FortheATCA‐6006,usetheaddressofaPEM.EachshelfFRUdevicemustbeupdated
separately(seeStep 6).
•FortheATCA‐6014andATCA‐6016,usethevirtualRCMaddress,whichupdates both
shelfFRUdevices.
<image>isthefullpathofthefile(locatedonyourcurrentsystem)tobewrittentothe
shelfFRUdevice.
TheshelfFRUdevice(s)andactiveandstandbyShelfManagersareupdatedwiththe
information.
6. OntheATCA‐6006shelf,performStep 5againusingtheIPMBaddressoftheotherPEM.
7. RebootbothSCMs.
Afterthereboot,theactiveShelfManagerretrievestheshelfFRUinformationfromtheshelf
FRUdeviceandwritesnewcachedcopiesonbothSCMs.
