Responding to a fan not running
1. CheckthattheShelfManagercancommunicatewiththefanandthatitisintheactive
state.UsetheCLIcommandshowchassisstatus.
2. Ifthefanisnotintheactivestate,checkthatthehot‐swapswitchisclosed.
a. OntheATCA‐6000shelf,thefanshouldhaveitshot‐swapswitchintheleftmost
position.
b. OntheATCA‐6006shelf,thehot‐swaplatchthumbscrewmustbesecured.
c. O ntheATCA‐6014andATCA‐6016shelves,theH/Sbuttonmustbetoggledtothe“on”
state.
3. Ifthefanisstillinactive,followtheinstructionsgiveninRespondingtoaFRUnotpowered
properlyonpage 119.
Responding to fan speeds higher than normal
1. Checkthatnotemperaturealarmsarecurrentlypresent.SeeRespondingtoalarmson
page 100.
2. Iftemperaturealarmsarepresent,checktheactualvalueofthesensorthatisinalarm.

3. CheckthattheShelfManagercancommunicatewiththefanandthatitisintheactive
state.UsetheCLItoaccessthefanslotandrunthecommandshowwiththedetailsoption.
IftheShelfManageriscommunicatingwiththefans,itshouldreducethefanspeedwhen
temperaturesreturntonormal.
4. Checktheairtemperaturesintheshelf.
5. Verifythattheairfiltershavebeencleanedaccordingtothemaintenanceschedule.
IfaFRUisgeneratingatemperaturealarm
thatdoesn’tclearitselfovertime,thismay
indicateahardwareproblem.
