CPM replacement procedures
Removing the CPM
Thefollowingstepsexplainthehot‐swapprocedureforreplacingtheCPM:
1. ReadElectrostaticdischargeonpage 10andmakesureyouareadequatelygrounded
beforehandlinganyofthemodules.
2. BeforereplacingtheCPM,disconnectallcablesfromthefrontpanel.
3. LoosenthetwothumbscrewssecuringtheCPM.
4. Releasethemodulelockingejectorlatchthatcontainsthe
hot‐swapswitch.Thiswillbeeithertherightorthe
bottomejectorlatch,dependingonwhetherthemodule
isorientedverticallyorhorizontally.
Toreleasethelockingejectorlatch,firstdisengagethe
latc hlockbyslidingthelocktowardthehandletorelease
thecatchfromtheshelflatchrail,thenpullthehandle
out.Refertotheillustration.
Donotreleasetheotherlatchatthistime.
Whenthehandleorejectorlatchisopened,asignalissenttotheIPMCwhichcausesthe
bluehot‐swapLEDtobeginblinking.
WARNING!
•Neverforceopenalockingejectorlatch.Thelockingmechanismmustbedisengagedto
releasethelatchordamagetothelatchcouldoccur.
•DonotremoveaCPMbefor eitshot‐swapLEDturnssolidblue.Removingitprematurelycan
causeunpredictableresultsinotherpartsofthesystem.
5. Whenitissafetoremovethemodule,thehot‐swapLEDstopsblinkingandremainson.
WARNING!BecarefulnottotouchanyheatsinkswhenremovingtheCPMbecausetheymight
behottothetouch.Ifpossible,wait3to5minutesafterthehot‐swapLEDturnssolidblueto
givetheairflowinthesystemtimetocooltheboard.
ToremovetheCPM,releasetheotherlockingejectorlatch(thenon‐hotswaplatch),using
thesamereleaseprocessdescribedinstep4.Simultaneouslypullbothejectorlatchesto
disengagethemodulefromthebackplaneandremoveitfromthechassis.
6. PlacetheCPMonaflat,static‐freesurface.
7. Important:IftheremovedCPMwillnotbereplacedwithanothermodule,installan
airflowmanagementfillerdesigned fortheslottomaintainpropercoolingandairflow
throughtheshelffortheremainingmodules.
