INSTALLATION
Y
ou can set the AFX-500 on a flat surface or mount it on a wall
(
see “Mounting on a Wall” on Page 5). Choose a location that
i
s:
• near an AC outlet
• near a telephone line jack
• out of the way of normal activities
• at least 2 feet away from any electronic equipment
N
otes:
• Your AFX-500 connects directly to a modular telephone
line jack. If your telephone wiring does not have a modular
jack, you can update the wiring yourself using jacks and
adapters available at your local RadioShack store, or have
the telephone company update the wiring for you.
• The USOC number of the jack to be installed is RJ11C.
• The socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment
and shall be easily accessible.

j
ack on the back panel, and plug the other end into a modular
t
elephone line jack.
Y
ou can use the AFX-500 if you have more than one phone
l
ine by connecting it to one of the lines. However, the AFX-500
w
ill only process calls on that line.
C
onnecting to a Telephone System
A
telephone system consists of two or more incoming lines, a
s
witching device, and any number of extensions. The AFX-
5
00 works with either KSU or PBX systems.
T
o work properly with a telephone system, the AFX-500 must
b
e connected between the system and the phone company’s
i
ncoming lines. If there are multiple incoming lines, connect
t
he AFX-500 to the last line in the rollover order. Also, all
e
quipment on that line must connect directly to the AFX-500.
You should be familiar with telephone wiring to connect the
AFX-500 to a telephone system. If you have questions or are
not confident that you can correctly install the AFX-500, con-
tact a professional installer or your local phone company.
Caution:
Do not connect the AFX-500 directly to a telephone
system phone jack. You might damage your phone system.
