Appendix B
Boot Sequence for
Downloading Software
This appendix provides a description of the IPmux-8/16 boot procedure.
The IPmux-8/16 software is stored in the flash memory in two sections, in the boot
sector and in the file system. The boot sector holds a boot program that calls up
the rest of the program from the file system.
The file system can hold two compressed copies of the IPmux-8/16 code. One
copy is called the operating file, and the other is called the backup file. The
operating file is the default-executable IPmux-8/16 code. The backup file is used
whenever the operating file is absent or corrupted.
B.1 Booting IPmux-8/16
IPmux-8/16 boots up automatically. After powering up, no user intervention is
required, except when the user wants to access the file system to modify or update
the software or the IPmux-8/16 configuration.
Figure B-1 shows the Boot menu.
