BERT
The pattern generator sends a standard 511-bit pseudo-random pattern to
the remote unit when the user activates the modem diagnostic. At the same
time, the pattern receiver checks the data received from the remote unit
and compares it with the standard 511-bit pattern.
If errors are detected, the ERR LED indicator flashes or remains ON. The
errors are also displayed on the LCD.
