Alarms
When FOM-E3/ETH or FOM-T3/ETH detects that the bit error rate of the signal
received from the optical interface is 10
-6
or worse, the modem transmits an "All
1s" signal (AIS) to the optical interface.
When an AIS is detected at the optical interface, the modem transparently
converts the signal and alerts the user via front panel LEDs and the alarm relay
port.
Likewise, an alarm is relayed if a high bit error rate is detected at the fiber optic
interface.

The FOM-E3/ETH and FOM-T3/ETH front panels contain LEDs for indication of the
E3/T3 and Ethernet interface status. For details, refer to

The rear panel of the unit allows access to the interface, alarm relay and power
connections. The rear panel is described in greater detail in
Chapter 2
