5.6 Frequently Asked Questions
Q Can I place an RJ-12 connector in the SHDSL RJ-45 female connector?
A Please read the following: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RJ12
.
Basically, RJ-12 can be plugged into a female RJ-45 connector, and it designed
so that the pins in the middle will still be connected. Because RJ-12 has 6 pins
and RJ-45 has 8 pins, pins 1 and 8 will not be used.
Answering the question, we can say, yes, you can use an RJ-12 when working
with 2W applications (which use only pins 4 and 5 of the RJ-45 connector). If
the application is a 4W one, then the answer will be, no, it is not possible,
because 4W applications use pins 1 and 2, 4 and 5 (and pin 1 does not match
between RJ-45 and RJ-12).
Q Does ASMi-52 comply with UL-1950 and K.21 safety standards?
A UL-1950 is an obsolete standard. The new one is UL-60950-1.
ASMi-52 does not have the UL1950 certificate. Nevertheless, ASMi-52
complies with UL1950, meaning that if you make ASMi-52 go through UL1950
certification, it will pass. To run the certification takes around 6 months and
the cost is quite significant. If there is a specific project where UL1950
certification is a must, please contact RAD to evaluate it. ASMi-52's line
protection is in compliance with the requirements of UL-1950. In fact, this
only means that the ASMI-52 has line fuses in the lines.
Regarding K.21, ASMi-52 complies with K.21 and has the certification as well.
