Chapter 6 Path Management 5620 Model Descriptor for LA-110 User’s Manual
6-10 Configuring and Monitoring ATM VCC Paths
b. In the PIR (peak Information rate) and MIR (Minimum Information Rate)
fields, assign the PIR and MIR values. Note that the PIR rate must be the
same or higher than the MIR rate.
According to 5620 regulations, the UBR Service Category connection consumes a
fixed share of bandwidth (BW), although in LA-110 terms, the configured BW is not
guaranteed. Several UBR connections created through the 5620 NM or 5620 DM
may consume the available link BW, and prevent the creation of additional CBR
connections, for example.
The UBR consumed BW is set by the configured MIR value, therefore it is
recommended to set as low as possible an MIR rate.
If setting a low MIR is not possible, RAD recommends that in case of an application,
in which UBR and other service category connections are involved, the connection
that will first be created will be the ones with the guaranteed bit rate (i.e. CBR).
Only after that UBR connections will be created, from the 5620 NM (if BW
allocation is not yet full) or from the 5620 DM if the link capacity has reached its
limits.
It should be noted the UBR management connections with BWs of zero are
reported to the 5620.
